need breeding advice

I have a female here I am attempting to get bred. She was at a friends house from January 1 to January 21 because he had a female in heat I had in my kennel. When she came back (Thursday) she was real swollen but showing no bleeding. The day she came back I put the male in with her but nothing happened that I know of.

Saturday I noticed blood for the first time. I put him in Saturday and they tied and I put him in Sunday and they tied. I tried all last week, and the weekend but she was having no part of it and was snippy and barky when the male tried. He showed interest, but not very persistent.

Today would be day 9 after I noticed the first blood, but again, she was away and could have bled prior but i don't think so.

Should I just keep trying this week and see what happens? What are the chances last weekend got it done?? Thanks guys Ron

I'm no expert but i always thought that when you see blood count that day and every day after, when you get to day 10 try.
(i always like to try on day 10 just in case i missed day one of blood.) I think bitches ovulate on one day between days 11-13, a males sperm lives for over 24 hrs (i think), so if you get a couple ties within those days you should have a good chance. I know of a couple females that actually bred on day 15-16 but thats rare.
A rule of thumb is if she's excepting she should be ready. I can't believe she excepted him already....what day was that??? 5-6? wow, that don't seem right...maybe you missed a few of the "blood" days in your counting. hope this makes since lol.
good luck

Today will be day 10 since I noticed the blood. I couldn't believe she let him that first weekend either, but she has not since.

I guess all I can do it put them in together and see, if it is meant to be it will be, if not, guess not.

Pregnant

If she stood she will take Providing she is in good health an so on,but yes you will be havin puppies.an sperm is good for 48 hours thats why you skip a day when breeding for further use when you see blood wait a week an breed a day an skip a day 3 times always worked for me.that is if you have acess to both dogs of course.
Good luck!

Thanks Mucket. I do have access to both dogs so I am going to continue to put them together daily just to see, but they were hooked twice last weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday. I tried to breed this female last summer also but I don't know if she ever got tied with the male, she lived with him for a week, but he had never been bred and just didn't seem to have it figured out. She had not problem standing though.

I appreciate the help.

Maybe, she didn't go for the beer and the smack on the butt.

It's possible she's an early ovulator and that's why she stood for him. You could have your vet do a progesterone test, then you'd know exactly where you stand.

Just get a T-shirt made that says "I HAVE BENEFITS". You'll do fine.
