Bad Poop Has anyone Seen This ???

Sence I know abit about Parvo I get alot of Emails from Fokes with Problums !!!!!!

This Poop I have never Seen !!!!

It has been like this for 4-5 Days !! Worms were seen at the First then the Dog was Wormed ..

This is a 8 month old Rabbit Hound and may have eaten a Worm Fested bunny ???

I don't know What Ya think ..

I've got a coondog that has normal hard crap all day, however once he trees it looks alot like that. And he will crap after every tree, I've had him to countless vets and they say nothing is wrong with him. So To answer your question I've seen it look like that but I don't know why, they say he just gets worked up to much prolly when he trees.

Could also be Giaridia. It is highly contagious and is endemic to areas with beavers etc.

Grown dogs usually build up an immunity to it. Treatment of it is controversial. Dogs can pick it up simply by being around other adult dogs that have been exposed to it. They can pick it up from a dog carrier, hunting with strange dogs, and drinking from creeks.

Most all outside dogs have had it at one point.

Some only treat when the dog is suffering dehydration etc from it.

In humans it is always treated as it is explosive diarrhea. It is unknown if the dog strains can be transmitted to humans.

It's more of a problem in pups as they havn't been sensitized to it yet and their immune system hasn't seen it yet so it is more likely to have symptoms severe enough to treat.

It may not be Giardia, there are a million things that can cause diarrhea, but that is one suspect.

The treatment for it is Flagyl (Metronidazole).

This Hound is Run hard in a Swamp in Hoboken N.J. at least 3-4 times a Week !!!!!

I would be almost certin its "Giaridia"

I would have him taken to a vet and check for cocciotis(sp). They are a protozoan intestinal parasite. They usually cause blood clots to appear in the stool. It will require veterinarian treatment to get rid of them, and can be fatal if left untreated. Good luck with your hound. Hope he is better soon! Amy

Treat with Albon, it will take care of the Coccidiosis and any other intestinal stuff. You can get it at a farm supply store that sells stuff for cattle.

Loose, watery diarrhea, a bad smell, listlessness and lose of appetite are all signs of it. It will kill a pup fast. Older dogs usually are not as prone to it.

Then you have to spray the area their in with a solution of ammonia and water to kill it. It can live in the soil for a long time. Chickens usually are the main carriers of it, but cattle are too.

coccidiosis yes, and or hookworms. had a pup get them both last year. go get the stuff at the vet, I wouldent use anything otc. it will need a 5 day panacur and some Albon. look like it might also have some roundworms in it. take him to the vet. good luck

The Guy is on the way to Tractor Supply at this moment !!

He can not get a Vet appt. till thur.. N.Y. / N.J. Vets are Booked ..

So he will start him on the Antibactials To day and Perk Up the Electrolites also !!

Very well could be Coccidious Also !! Same Treatment

He said their was lots of Goose Poop their also !!

Unless you wormed the dog with PANACUR 5 days in a row - the dog still needs to be wormed effectively.

He ran a 3 day Panacur .. He said when the dog started this it expelled 5-6 worms that were Flat and were 3"- 4" long ...

He needs a very good Tape Wormer also ..

This is why I thought they may have been Rabbit Tapes .. But the Bacteria may have loosend up some Adult Tapes ..

Every pup I have ever had with cocci had a real dark stool. Coccidia usually does not effect pups older than 6 months. By then they usually have an immunity to the protozoa.
How much stool is the dog expelling? Is he straining hard when doing so? I have seen stool that looks very much like that when there was some type of intestinal blockage.

If they cant make an appointment why not just drop a fecal sample off surely they would do a fecal exam for the guy.

5 days in a row of Panacur

Panacur 5 days in a row is CRITICAL - it will get EVERYTHING!
The reason you must treat 5 days in a row is because the parasites only feed every other day - SO 3 DAYS IN A ROW DOESN'T GET ALL OF THEM.
I train & handle for a Vet. I had a dog with that same problem - the Panacur worked.
5-days of Panacur will get ALL worms & the Giardia.

I had it, and explosive diarrea is the right word. I drank out of a dang creek one night when we got lost and I was feeling like I was going to thirst to death. Next time I'll choose death.......

Thats what my dogs poop looks like when I fed Black Gold,I switched to Southern States 24/20 complete sport and it now looks normal

Sulmet= inexpensive cure!!

I had some pups get something similar to that and gave them a full syringe of Sulmet right down the throat and cleared it up very fast!!
