Has your dog had Puppy Strangles?
I'm wondering if any of you can help me. My 6 week old Black and Tan pup was diagnosed with Puppy Strangles (Juvenile Cellulitis) today. He has a big lump under his jaw line and his eyes are mattered and crusty. The vet gave him antibiotics and eye ointment. After I got home and read up on it I learned he probably should have given him steroids also.
What I want to know is, have any of you ever heard of this or had a dog with it? If so, could you tell me what the dog went through, medications it was given, and how it turned out. I'd just like to know what to expect. Thanks.
Have one here that had it.Hers wasnt to severe. She was on steroids. She never had lumps but her mouth and lower jaw was raw and swollen. Here she is now.
.................
..I had one pup that had it.........head swelled to twice normal size....................he got over it, made a good hound..............didn't seem to hurt his sense of smell.............

Thanks everybody. I appreciate any info. I've been raising pups for 26 years and this is a first for me. Here's what he looked like 3 days ago. He's worse now. Now his ears are infected and swelled. I took him to a second vet and got him on steroids. He's been taking them, along with the antibiotics, for 6 days now.
