sportsmanship & consederation
i am guilty of getting caught up in the moment on a comp hunt so dont think i cant understand a very fast pace in the woods.and i know we want to score as many trees as posable but here is an observation that has opened my eyes wide.the other night on a hunt we got cast into an area that is a little rougher than what the average is around our way.it was the first time my wife had come to see what it was all about.everything was fine the first drop but as we went on the hills got steper and the creeks got deeper.i was able to keep us up to pace with everyone most of the night.on the third drop she kept saying she was sorry and she felt like she was holding me back.we are in good shape and were moving faster than the average cast i have been on.one other hunter and a diffirent guest were starting to lag behind at this point which made her feel a little better.the point i am glad i see now and hope some others may think about is there are people that paved the way for use and are getting some age on them, but they still love the sport and should not be left behind by us in our 20s and 30s.and there are new comers that we dont want turned off by a 7 minute mile pace.i know from now on i will always have an eye towards the back and make sure i am not leaving some one to wonder if the can still do what the love or if they really want to get into comp hunting at all, even if it means not getting one more scored.
the rules clearly state the judge must maintain a pace attainable by all cast members. not to fast, not to slow. if we would just all remember this rule when we go, there should be no problems.

I agree 100%, I have been accused of "speed walking" before and I always figured everyone should be in better shape if they're gonna hunt with me. Now I have got a little fatter and feel aches and pains in places that I didn't know existed and I'm slowing the pace down a bit. Truth is, that I enjoy it more now than before and so does my huntin buddies. The coon isn't going anywhere and neither is a good dog so slow down and you'll enjoy it a lot more and it's SAFER than driving on like a wildman!
