I had 9 sweat puppies and have 1 left to sell. Most of all its location. Seems like no one wants apuppy around here. All mine went to the SE.

I don't know...I had a litter at the 1st of January last year and they sold like hotcakes, locally.

I'd say lots of folks are saving rather than spending these days...

Aot of people cannot train a pup unless the pup is a natural or they want take the time to do it right. They want a started pup. The price of a 7wk old and a lighted started pup is not to far apart. But alot must happen in that time period and it is hard to get someone to pay for what it cost to have a lightly started pup. Money is tight.

I would be hesitant to breed a female right now because of Michigans economy and so many folks out of work. Unless there are lots of folks that know your dog and want a pup out of her. I imagine lots of folks are cutting back what they spend and waiting to see where this all ends up .

i made the cross cuz i wanted a pup out of my all grand female she a good one won 13 out of 16 cass 2nd in the pkc state finsh 11 in state standing two year in row won a rqe then i bread to cornell 9 pups still have 3 one male two females, yoiu would think they would sell

Times are definitely tough everywhere. It costs a lot to raise a litter of pups- stud fees, feed, shots, dewormings, papers, vet bills, etc. We usually only break even when we sell a litter. One way I help others breeders out is I recommend them to prospective buyers. If I don't have what they want then, I" Pay it forward"! I like to hook people up with good hounds. I usually remember folks in different areas that I have dealt with. We can help each other out of these tough times by working together. Treat folks honestly and fairly in all your hound deals, and I guarantee the next time they want a hound they will call you, and then send their friends to call you too. The key is how you treat folks. There is still folks wanting hounds, but many can't afford to travel too far to get one. Sometimes they have to save up to buy one. Thanks, and God Bless, Amy

Pup market appears to be down. Surf the message boards and you can find started pups or pups old enough to start for slightly more than puppy price.

I had a cross I had planned to make this fall as well. A "dream cross" that I had been planning on for the last 2 years. Timing just never seemed right. This fall it would have been but I found myself not in the need for another pup right now, therefore I never made the cross.

If I wanted to make a cross just for myself, thats what I'd do. Only keep whatever is booked in advance. Otherwise you're selling pups for less than they are worth and we'll continue to see a flooded market for coonhound pups. Otherwise be prepared to keep a bunch and start them and then cull hard. Not always the easiest thing to do.

onley raise wat i wount to keep and hunt the extra pups i have from a litter is easey to sale but i onley breed coon dog to coon dog and sale the extra ones cheep,somp people try doing it 4 a livning and breed for tittels onley and charg a arm and a leg and some of thoes pups i would say is hard to sale becalws money is tight all over and a lot of people are out of work it is getting bad all over

A lot of pup's bein born that probably shouldn't be in the name of the 'ol mity "$$$$".

We raise for ourselves a litter & at time's two a year but the majority stay in the family so to speak.

Quality not quantity should be on everyone's mind's no matter the color.

Just my take on it.......................

I'm not a breeder but I'm very sure if I wanted to make a cross, the odds of selling them would not be part of the equation.

Had a litter of 8 on Feb. 9 of this year. They were ALL sold within a week of being born. Most were spoken for a few weeks after I had my bitch bred. Location has nothing to do with it.

I would say if there not SS or PERF. pups they are going to get harder and harder to sell. Not much differance in the price and a chance of getting a check from the club.

Pups are doing really well! They have been weaned for about a week now and living outside. I had to put them in the kennel because they were getting all over the yard a few days ago. lol

The problem is to many female owner's are pricing there pups WAY WAY WAY TO HIGH IN PRICE!!! $500 to $1200 and even ive seen some for $1500 at 9 weeks old!! The average man and his family can't afford pup's at these prices! Don't get me wrong i would love to own one that is breed that well. These owners of these females are one better drugs than i have every done in my life!!! Mr. Hodge's , I know you have the "GOLDEN TICKET" but I don't have a golden wallet. TELL YOU WHAT I'LL TRADE YOU A NEW TOYOTA 2015 MODEL 4X4 AND GIVE YOU BOOT FOR ONE OF THOSE PUPS YOUR SELLING-----OH MAYBE NOT, THAT PROBALY WOULD NOT BE ENOUGH!!!
