what happened?

I was looking for the "circle tree" thread, I am new to the coon hunting sport if you would call it that and am trying to learn all I need to before I enter the woods so I dont get screwed. It seems to me that coonhunting is a lot like anything else, alot of people sitting around with nothing but bulls$!* comming out there mouth and the truth blowing out there a$$. I dont mean thi to be rude but thats the way I see it.

one thing u need to learn about comp huntin, is that there is ppl out there that will cheat u and screw u over every chance they get... im sure all of us on here that nite hunt have been screwed a time or two at some point. there is alotta ppl on here that complain about getting cheated but face it u got cheated and thats it, no need to complain on here lol. dont get discouraged about it if/when it happens just let it go knowing ur the better man with the better dog (not having to cheat to win).... thats one of the main things IMO. not meaning to sound mean or discourage u but ive seen ppl quite hunting because of drawin out with a cheater.. u have a ? about circle trees?

I say grow up and quit cheating if your dog can't win fair then find one that can and don't talk about getting cheated on here cause the moderater will kick u off I think he might be a hard one to beat in a cast too.

sorry if i offened u/anyone i was just trying to help him and tell him that im sure its happened to us all, i wasnt complaining or anything,.. just giving him a fair warning.

Unfortunately there are people that will do anything for a win. I think the majority are fair and honest folks.

My advice is take the good with the bad and don't go into it thinking you are going to get cheated, it will be much more enjoyable going into it with a positive attitude and have fun.

I was simply trying to figure out what the big deal was. Its hard to see why an honest man as the sport proclaims to have would not take his minus if he knew his dog did not have the meat. I have seen guys leave a tree and minus their own dog because he KNEW his dog was wrong. Why must a GOOD SPORTSMAN call himself a champion if he is nothing but a scavenger.

cheaters

people cheat in EVERY sport, the way i see it if ya don't like cheaters don't play. That's why i don't hunt in compitition hunts,i don't think there are many that cheat ,but i dont like cheating,PERIOD so i just do my pleasure hunting,i have seen too many comp. dogs that pull of short or tree slicks in the winter during coon season when it counts

If I were you I'd be more concerned about "screwing up", than "getting screwed". There are a lot of good people in these hunts, and like any sport, we have a few that aren't, but the good by far out wieghs the bad. Let me give you a nickle's worth of advce; Learn the rules, know how they apply, Besure you're "packin" a dog that is competitive, and Be sure he is ready to compete. It is more important to get a dog ready, than it is to go to a hunt. Tom

what happened

u know u all say know the rules. when u go to a comp hunt all rule are not the same from one hunt too other.

It would be cool if they made one set of rules for pkc akc and ukc best rule of all is the 1 min rule on the strike in akc them boys hunting them babbling dogs sure don't like it

I just started coon hunting my self i had a friend that would let me go with him and his dogs and i realised how much fun it is, so this year I bought a young female that had been hunted, but not bye herself and at first I didnt know what to think cause I didn't see any coons on the first week then the second week she treed on the out side and got her first coon. I was never more happy in my life. It has been a major exspeirence for me and I used to ride bulls for 7 years and still never had as much fun as I do now coon hunting.

one set of rules would make it easier some of the rules I have looked at dont really define what is right and what is wrong. You say that man circled the tree due to forks sounds to me that the rules should say how big the fork must be before the tree is scored.

Im trying to get my dog ready I have made good freinds with experinced houndsmen its all a matter of putting him in the woods enough to get him there. The problem is I dont have the money to waste if Im going to get cheated. Do you see what Im saying

Posted by Matt Mays on 01-23-2010 05:15 AM:

if you get cheated it's your own fault... know the rules and stand your ground.... dont be the guy that gets pushed around during the hunt and then whines about getting cheated afterward.... take my advice, learn the rules back and forth and you will have little problems.... i've been cheated, most have. but i dont blame them i blame myself for being ignorant or not standing up for myself when i knew i was right, live and learn.... know the rules and don't let anyone get the bluff in on you

Coon hunting is not about the hunts at all.learn to coon hunt and enjoy it and love your hound(s).You can't measure the love of your sport by a nite hunt.If you want to try your luck in the nite hunts and you look for the BS,you'll find it.There is a lot of good people in the nite hunts not all are full of crap.

but you know where akc screwed up at with that rule. a dog can bark every second for the 55 seconds and shut up and bark again at a minute and one seconds and strike for 100. only if a dog is barking when the minute is up do they strike for 50. so if a dog is barking at 58, 59, and 1 minute they strike for 50. but in answer to fella's post learn the rules and learn how they are used. you can know the rules backwards and forwards but ifyou don't know the situtation to use them in. it doesn't mean nothing. just go out there have a good time and call your dog. thats my motto.
