I had one that I got him at 10 months old & he had never been handled or even had a collar on him. When I put a collar & lead on him he liked to have pulled my arm off. Within three days he acted like he had been trained to handle from a puppy on. He was a smart dog & an exceptional tree dog that had the coon a very high percentage of the time. He was a hard going dog that could get through the country if he had to but didn't blow out just to be doing it. All in all he made a very nice hound & the others I've hunted with were about the same, good about having the coon & nice loud tree dogs. Homer has turned out some nice coondogs & he is an exceptional dog also. They like to be your friend not just a ride to the woods.
thanks
btt - thanks for the input

I hunt with one on a regular basis. He is cold nosed, straddles a track, good locate and good tree dog. Trees a LOT of coons for a two year old dog. The man that owns him has a litter of pups off Homer and a Swamp female, but I believe they are all spoken for.
I have a buddy of mine thats hunts a couple of young hounds from Homer and a top bitch TriColor Nowhere, believe me they are cooners...

Homer Dogs
I own a male out of homer. when i got him he was 19 monthsold and had only been in the woods a dozen or so timed hunted about 5 timed with my old bitch and then took him buy his self treed 4 single likehe was 8 years old. one word of advise i will give you a word of advise though is homer dogs tend to be hard headed take a little patience but thy break out real nice. and when they are young the will grub a track in a open field usaully grown out og it by to years old. but they are bar none coondogsmine is dead accurate. he does miss here and there but is getting better with time havn't hunted him hard in the last2 months due to wheather and work but he is a super nicehound. had a 1st place hunt win put on him in nov right after he turned two. he came from a litter of seven six of them treed theie own hot coon not caged by the time they were18 months old. mine belonged to a older man who houde broke him but never hunted him hope this help thanks mickey
