Wisconsin Hunter, Houndsmen/women, and Dog owners
Check out the Wisconsin Association of Sporting Dogs Clubs at www.wasdc.net! Come see what we have to offer and seriously think about becoming a member.
Mission Statement
To function as a "special interest group" that protects the right of the sporting dogs of Wisconsin with a focus on the following areas:
• To promote enthusiasm in all Wisconsin Sporting Dogs
• To keep all sporting dogs hunting
• To promote legislation to protect sporting dogs and hunting sports
• To preserve wildlife for future generations
The History of the WASDC ...
The Wisconsin Association of Sporting Dog Clubs was organized April 26th, 1977. It's purpose is to further the improvement of dog clubs within the state of Wisconsin, and to support, investigate, and develop legislation and laws concerning all sporting dogs in Wisconsin.
In the spring of 1980, the Wisconsin legislature passed the "Shining Animal Law". The WASDC was there to protect our right to hunt. They were instrumental in the addition of exemptions to the law for the raccoon hunter. Without the WASDC's involvement, we would not be hunting past ten o'clock at night. The WASDC was also there to try and block the Spring Closure in northern Wisconsin. Although they were not able to stop the law, they helped with the changes to benefit the sporting dog clubs.
In the spring of 1987, several hounds men from around the state met with the DNR. They set up a valuable line of communication and were asked to be the spokes group for the raccoon hunter to the DNR.
In 1989, the WASDC negotiated with the DNR to keep our right to coon hunt at night during special or extended deer seasons. In the summer of 1990, the WASDC was the first organization to alert its members and others of the proposed "Captive Wildlife Law" and had several members on the Dog committee, which was formed to deal with the dog provisions in it.
The future of hunting with dogs will only be guaranteed by the constant vigilance of organizations such as the WASDC. We plan to be there to safeguard your sporting rights.
