How many people have crossbred hounds in their kennels?

I'm just really curious to see how many there are out there, registered or not. I have 2 here right now, both pups (one belongs to my son) 1/2 B&T and 1/2 Walker, if they make it and their color holds they should be single registered as B&T's this fall. Well, if the association keeps it open.

Willing to admitt it???? Why wouldn't they admitt it George? Are you insinuating there is some sort of shame in owning a crossbred hound?

Since this is a board set up for and sponsored by UKC, it stands to reason that most of the participants have UKC registered hounds and since crosses aren't a breed in UKC, it stands to reason most on here don't own them. but a bunch sure do like to talk about them.

Well JiM, I'm not as much insinuating that they are ashamed of it, as stating the fact it appears to me. And by the way JiM, this was not meant to be a political thread, I was just curious as to how many were out there. Sorry about the way my second post came off to anyone it may have offended.

I, for one, wish that UKC would just stop all Single Registration of any coon hound for any reason and register the crossbreds as what they are or don't register them at all. As long as they are out of 2 registered coonhounds of any UKC recognized breed, then there is no reason for them to have a Breed Association, or a Breed Standard at all. UKC could register them themselves and just limit them from competing in Bench Shows (because the Breed Standards would be a problem). In just a few generations there will only be one UKC Coon Hound Breed that does not have all 'PR' pedigrees, the crossbreds. If you want purebreds, either option would be the best way to get them in my opinion. Just registering them as crossbreds keeps more money coming into UKC's bank account while maintaining the purity and integrity of the other breeds.

I've owned them and grade dogs.........I have no problem admitting it.............Best dog I ever owned was a grade dog.

With single registration being accepted by UKC, I am sure others have crossbreeds as well -- some unbeknown.

Take Hard Rock as example -- he's B&T/Walker.

He's male pup's sire litters...........still some walker blood running through those veins of the pups.

Since when you get one registered through single registration, they go from being called crossbreed one day to whatever breed they were single registered as with full breeding rights.

To me, I am all for a cross-breed program so the doors on single registration is closed on the regular breeds. --- in a honest world, perhaps that may cut down on the false papers and such that goes on, I am sure it wouldn't stop it completely, but perhaps help.

As it is now, a crossbreed can still become registered as a breed with full breeding rights as long as it meets the requirements.

Whats better -- a crossbreed program to shore that up or allow crossbreeds to become recognized as a breed and mix that crossblood within the breed?

Which is the lesser of the 2 evils?

I dont have any right now, I do have a Grade female, she looks like a Walker. I would take a Cross bred hound as fast as a full blooded one, makes no diference to me.

While i would not be in favor of the a cross breed program, and really don't care to much for the single registering of one, itis accepted, and the registry stands behind their decicsion to allow it. I am sure there is a reason for allowing this process to take place. With that said, if UKC ever allows a crossbreed program to start, and if i ever decide to get away from total walker dogs, i know where i am going to cross up the blood genes. Flying Man. Pains me to think about it, but that crossbred dog does some winning.

if the truth is known is known a lot of walkers have b&t blood back in them years ago walker men learned by crossing them it cleared the tics off the walkers. when i was a kid a lot of walkers were so ticy you had to ask if it was a walker or english hard time speck is a good exsample.as we all know walkers english and blueticks all came in the same litter.i know my b&ts have walker in them 7 to9 generations ago it never shows now. bts that are high tan monkey faced, white on chest is a tellol tail sign of walker blood back there some where. i dont like it but its a fact. i know were the walker blood came form in my dogs. they have been breed anuff generations now it never shows

Never ask a man what kind of dog he has. If he has a hound he'll tell you, if he does not, you don't want to shame him by asking.

I don't personally know anyone hunting a grade dog but I know some of the Amish kids around here have them and all of them resulted from some kid with a bitch tied out on a chain.

I have a black and tan with no papers and some white patches on her( thinking mixed with walker somewhere). She is hot nosed and fast like a walker. Some nights she runs real good other nights she is dead on. But I didnt spend a million dollars on her either. FREE!
