Live trap bait

Was wondering what the best bait is to use in a live trap to catch a raccoon? Any help would be great.

places where there are cats i use peanut butter and kool aid {works good around dumpsters behind groc. stores}. in the woods away from housecats i use sardines or fish cut a lil bluegill in half or creek chubs

Peanutbutter and jelly mixed and throw it strait on the tray Been 90%

Posted by BLCKRIVREDBONES on 01-10-2010 06:45 AM:

Caught hundreds of 'em using grape or strawberry kool aid mixed with a little water and a slice of bread. You can squish it up in a ziploc bag and not get all sticky. It's cheap and easy. Molasses will work this way also.

Mini marshmallows work great too.

I place the bait on the ground and set the trap over it so they have to work for it. I always put a little bait around the entrance and a few pieces leading in the trap. This keeps them from trying to reach through the mesh from the side or back and setting the trap off. Stabilize the trap with sticks on the corners if necessary so it doesn't rock. Coons don't care if it rocks but the trap might go off and they could back out.

If you have cats and squirrels around don't use fish, sardines, dog food or peanut butter.

marshmallows

The Best thing ever PEPs Never caught anything but coon on them NO CATS,Griners , Skunks .>>>>JUST COON<<<<<
The PEPs are kinda hard to find sometime so just plain marshmallows work fone but sometime when Im in a hurry to catch a coon Ill roll them in sugar

either honey buns or canned tuna. the only problem with the tuna though is you are likely to catch a house cat or possum. HONEY BUNS works best

Posted by byersboy86 on 01-10-2010 02:06 PM:

take an empty peanut butter container stuff it as full as can be with the larger marshmellows then soak it with maple syrup and wire it to the back of the trap works Everytime!

Peanut Butter, Marshmallows and Sugar on a piece of bread works pretty good. Also had good luck with hostess blueberry pies. Break it in half, put half under the trigger, eat the other half on the way back to the truck.

Skunk

so I tried putting marshmallows in my live trap in the peanut butter jar, and all I have caught is three skunks. First two simply walked out of the trap, but the one today was not willing to leave so easy. Was really worried that I was going to get sprayed.

vanillaextract will draw then from quite a distance pour it over corn.dog food or just plain bread it's the best i ever used catch one whenever i set it even in thin coon population, and very seldom caught anything other than a coon

rice krispy treats and peanut butter smeared on trigger

Sardines

I use sardines and do not open the can. Take your pocket knife or small phillips screw driver and poke holes in the lid, pour the liquid and make a trail into trap, then throw the can to the back of trap. They cant eat your bait and you can use it over and over.

The Honey Bun worked. Went out to check trap this morning and had a big boar in there. Thanks for all the suggestions.
