Bach's Rescue Remedy
Has anyone tried this on their hounds? It was recently recommended to me for one of my dogs that doesn't travel well. Several folks have made it sound like a miracle drug for carsickness, easing anxiety at the vet, etc. Just would like to hear if it has worked for anyone. If you have tried it, did you get the formula made specifically for pets, or just the "human version" that can be found at health food/vitamin shops? The supplements contained in both are the same, but I did notice the human version contains alcohol. Thanks for any input...I'm considering hunting this stuff down before we head to Orangeburg this weekend!

Is this stuff a liquid? If alcohol is a main ingredient there are probably cheaper ways to get a hound liquored up. LOL
You might also check into using the store brand generic of dramamine, easy to find at Wal-mart or your local drug store. I have heard of it being used for car sick dogs. Not sure of the dose by weight so you would have to get someone else to tell you that. Your vet would probably give you some idea over the phone.
heard GREAT things about it from trainers/behaviorists/people who have anxious dogs alike. Never used it myself yet, but it's definitely something I'd look into if I ever had a nervous/reactive dog. My vet thinks the DAP (dog appeasing pheromones) collars worked for her nervous beagle...

A+++
I was a bit skeptical when Rescue Remedy was first recommended to me since I'm not a big fan of all natural/organic things.
I had a black and tan that would go neurotic when it would thunderstorm. the behavior was so bad that I could tell when a thunderstorm was coming 3 hours before it even started to rain. Long story short, it worked great!
I also used it on a walker that would get super anxious before a show and it worked on her as well. I don't have any anxious hounds at this time but I still keep a bottle on hand. I use the regular kind and purchase mine from Dr. Foster and Smith.
I've used rescue remedy for years on dogs, horses, cats and me. Works great. As far as I know there is only one kind, it's not made up for "dogs" and "humans" in other words. I get mine at the health food store. I think Wal-Mart here might carry it.

Wife uses it on her poms that don't travel well, 3 drops for 6 lb dog

I don't know what is in it, other than flower essences. And even if it is alcohol, you only use a couple of drops of the remedy, so it's not going to "liquor up" a hound or anything else.
rescue remedy
It's great, for some dogs.....you need to use it beforehand and get a feel of how it works for your dog....you need to use it before the dog is stressed or nervous, for best results.
It is often used for young dogs getting carsick. I have used it for that, and for dogs stressed at shows.....
However, I wouldn't use more than 4 drops for a large dog. My hounds are 85 pounds and 105 pounds....4 is enough for them. If you want to show them, you do want them to appear to be awake, right?

Yeah, weak attempt to be funny. Sorry.
I looked at their web page, lots in those plant extracts, probably works like they say. Plants used to be about the only way medicines used to be made.

Thanks for all the input! May have to order some and give it a try soon. I like the way my vet treats my dogs, but I'm constantly getting lectures on how I should spay/neuter them, not give my own vaccinations, not use Ivomec for heartworm prevention, etc etc. The only solution he would give me for carsickness was a prescription drug, and he said it was pretty costly...as much as my dogs travel I can't afford to spend a bunch of money on a carsickness remedy! Thanks again...

New vet?
Sounds like you might need a new one, I'm sure you can find one around thats working dog friendly, if you're gonna spend the money might as well spend it somewhere you like the vet and don't have to listen to him lecture about your private property and personal business.
I have been trying the Rescue Remedy on one of my dogs, I got the 'human' version with the alcohol. I imagine the pet formula would probably taste better to them with no alcohol in it. Anyway it seems to help calm the dog down I have been giving it to.
