Train dog to show?????

How do you train a hound to show. never been around that side of the competitions. I'm just a pleasure hunter and I've been in a few night hunts. But i want to learn how to train my dogs and all the dogs I'll have in the future to stand and show. I think it seems more professional and presentable. ????

well i just started my pup at a very young age like 8 week just foolin around and this dog was my first and still is my first but ive show other peoples dogs but i just would put her on a table and keep her attention just for a short time not long that will burn them out well then wen she got to be like 5 months a started to set her feet and i held her head (every dog is diffrent) but i showed her in a few shows and well we didnt do to well so a pulled her out for like a year and after that i was workin with her every day just setting her feet and maken her stay alil longer ( i think obedience has a part in it) then i put her back in at a year and half and she is 2 half now and i didnt take her to many show (cus of the money) well 10 local shows and made her grand (witch is 5 shows to make show champ 5 shows to make grand) but i just practiced with her every day and she got use to it and alot of wipings to get her to stand right lol i dont no if this is helpin u or not lol but its been so long that i just can remember just working with her

put the dog on the bench first, take it from there, rambunctious, pet it lots, top petting and underneath petting, get it use to that, it will get real comfortable getting petted, it will automatically start standing still for the petting, talk to it, and pet it lots, it will grow on ya, you and your dog will become one, it will read your thoughts and you will read its thoughts, together you will train eachother! need i say more? the more shows you enter, the better you both become, you learn together!

he sounds like he mentally not ready so u say he keeps his feet were they need to be i do this with a first timer hold here head for them till the get the hang of it thats wat i had to do with my female and the others ive benched it just takes time for them to hold there head still and i think the tail it take alot longer than the head so be pateint if he holds his feet ok and the head is all u have problems with thats just my opinion

o ok, i really appreciate that, so when you say hes "mentally" not ready you mean it'll just be up to him far as growing/maturing out?

you have an over hyper dog? here is something you can try and i can not gurantee that it will work, but it may! you need to get into this dogs mind, and train it accordingly so hyperness comes out of it and it becomes trainable! sounds kinda crazy but seriously it is a mental problem! take your hound for a walk, well lots of them actually, tell it to walk and walk it, stop and tell it to stop, and stay put for a few seconds, make it stand still, then walk it, stop, repeat, stay longer, then repeat, you are training this hound to stop, stand and stay until this hound stays at stance till your next command! hope this helps!

ps: talk to them always while you work with them, they learn commands! stand, stay, only 2 commands to it,,,,,, hope that helps!
