How much jealousy are there in Coon Hunting?
I was just wondering how much jealousy do you think there is in Coon Hunting? I have never heard of a good coon dog that someone did not have something negative to say about it. I have heard people say well he or she is a pretty good dog but i saw them do this or that.
we all know there is no such thing as a perfect dog and what one person may like his dog another person might not have it, but if it pleases that person thats all that matters and there is no reason to bad mouth it because you don't like it.
joking about the dog to the person is a whole different matter.
also do you think running these $300.00 adds in the magazines makes that much difference when it comes to breeding your female or does word of mouth and what you can read on the internet play just as much a role?

YES THE AD ,S HELP GREATLY IF YOU ARE ABLE TO RUN ADS IT KEEPS THE DOG IN THE PUBLIC EYE YOU HAVE TO PROMOTE THEM. BUT THAT DOES NOT MAKE THEM A GREAT DOG WHAT THEIR OFFSPRING DOES WILL DO THAT

Jealousy in coon hunting is off the charts bad, especially when it comes to a different breed then the one that person is packing. In the night hunts jealousy runs ravid.

It's unfortunate but envy is rampent. The nite hunters are bad about it but the show folks are worse. A good nite hunt dog is always meaner than all get out and a good show dog's handler has paid off every judge in the country. I guess I'll use this reply to make a challenege: In 2010 why don't we stop all this nonsense. When we go after each other the anti's win.

i dont believe its jealousy, its just the truth usually, big money guys advertise every month in the books, and guys spend 8-10 thousand on dogs that are usually no better than the old dog tied out behind the barn. ive personally seen some of the " big timers" in a couple different breeds, and got a pretty good laugh at a couple of em, they were no better than what ive got, actually a whole lot worse.
I have sat in alot of clubhouses over the last few years, dozens just last year aloned. I think I could count on one hand the number of hunters at those events that I felt acted or showed themselves to be jelous or spitefull of other hunters or their dogs. 95% of what I see in the clubhouse AND in the woods is great fellowship and good, hard competion. If I were to experience 1/10th of the discontent that some of you claim, I would have left and never looked back many, many years ago.
Indeed!!

Jealousy about equal to the braggin and blowin.....pretty equal to normal life I'd say....
Them boys that hunt the off colored dogs just can't take the heat when the Tri color's win!
The envy is unbelievable!!!!!
Just poking fun folks, i don't even have a hound at the house right now..
Just couldn't resist
happy new year!!!!!!
Jealousy
I hunt blue dogs here in Ms. and make all of the comp hunts I can. There are mostly walker dogs here in the hunts and some dang good ones. I think if we all would stop crying about getting beat and spend more time in the woods with our hounds we could compete with any color dog. I have made more friends in the hunts than i would have if I had not of been going. Dont get me wrong I hate to get beat worse than anybody but you are not going to win them all. The ones that are doing it dis honestly will get what they got coming sooner or later. Just stand up for what is right at the time no matter if it is for or against your dog. Pretty soon the ones that are cheating will see they cant get away with it. Everyone has a sayso and bring it to a vote.

A guy told me once if you don't get along with your neighbors you will never get along with your neighbors no matter how many times you move. I believe that and I think it hold true with the ones you hunt with.

As Jim said, If it were as bad as you read on here I would have
quit years ago also! Maybe it is worse down south as most of
the times I''ve seen outright cheating and terrible sportsmanship
has been when I was hunting down there. I've also drawn out
with great guys down south that I've been friends with for years,
especially in the Blue hunts I've attended through the years.
Up here, most of the casts I've been on have been just like a few
guys going pleasure hunting for the night with good conversation
and alot of joking around. We even make fun of our own dogs,
usually started by me saying before we turn the dogs loose that
I'm sorry because I just hunt a bluetick and I'm not sure what
it's going to do. My wife has put an end to most of my hunting
the last year and I really miss going to the hunts!!! I've been in a couple cast in the last several years were my dog and another
were really operating and the others weren't and they scratched
there dogs and stayed with us just to appreciate the good dog
work and to see who would win the "shootout".

The $300.00 ads do not make a difference to me when it comes to breeding my female(s).
I will buy a pup off these advertised Studs, before I breed my female(s) to them. I am really hard to -please.
Then no matter what I read or hear, I'll take a trip and see what all the hype is for myself.
Like I told the last breeder when I went to see for myself ," Wasn't impressed........... wasn't disappointed, ain't got nothing I ain't got, and moved on. I am not into moving horizontially, but rather forward.
Word of mouth from "CERTAIN" individuals has merit.
Remember everone interpets differently.
As far as jealousy goes, if they don't like you.................................
oh well .
Here's the thing about coonhunting... It has the BEST and WORST of all worlds all wrapped up in it. I've witnessed unbelieveable acts of spotsmanship and also Horses azz cheaters.
I did a poll a while back on this very subject on the black and tan breed fanciers page.. The results showed that about 1/3 of the people had enough jealousy/envy/spite , that they would not even consider buying a pup from certain bloodlines.
2/3 's of the people said they would buy the best pup they could find , no matter who it was from...
That pretty much sums it up.

I am sure it is bad in some areas, but I always say a dog only has to please the person that feeds it! wether you are a compition hunter or pleasure hunter we all enjoy the same thing, time outdoors with our dogs. hunt what you like the way you like and don't worry about everyone else. just my two cents HAPPY NEW YEARS TO ALL
From a Personal Experience
I've met, heard and even read what bad things people say about me or my dogs.. yet I have met FAR MORE people that are good hearted and just enjoy talking about each other's dogs or experiences.
I remember the GOOD things a lot better and a lot more than the BAD.

jealousy
check this out. the jealousy does'nt only involve around coondogs. there's guys here that get mad or jealous just because they hunt the same woods that you have been hunting when they were swinging on their mammy's skirt-tail but now they say it's their woods. as going as far as reporting you into the game warden, "imagine that"!!! that's really bad when a coon hunter turns another coon hunter in for the samething they're doing.... now that's jealousy, greety and real STUPID !!!

You think it's bad in coonhounds...check out the bird dog crowd sometime LOL.
No matter what breed or type, some people try to live through their dog, it's a sad existence at best.

What about posting guides on the score card before the other 3 hunters are put on the card .i don't like that the same ones wind up guiding and going to their territory to hunt most of the time.
i think all cards should be drawn out and someone on each card will know some where to go to hunt the guide does not have to be the score keeper. If no one knows where to hunt then send a guide with the cast from the club.

Chooseing guides............
They should have to be as qualified as the qualified requirement to judge.
It should not be left to chance.
"i think all cards should be drawn out and someone on each card will know some where to go to hunt" bad idea, but I know this happens.
