help or advice
my 2 year old male black and tan is doing great by himself or with my older female. which he is penned with so he is very used to her. but last nite i took him 2 strange dogs and he hunted good and struck first? but when my old dog treed and the others were at treed he didnt tree with them no i dont believe any were ill on the tree. by himself he will go no and get treed. hunt him with my old dog and the 2 of them make a force to be reckon with. he is an extremely hard tree dog. but can anyone tell me or advise me what to do to make him tree with strange dogs. i dont think he has ever been fussed at the tree. he may just be jealous? he is also very independpent. i have shot coon out to him by himself.
dewayne id try to kennel him for a day or two with your buddies hounds. then hunt them together. , just keep trying. dogs definately can be jelous. pete
THANK YOU PETE. BY HIMSELF HE SHOWS A LOT OF GOOD PROMISE. HE HUNTS GOOD AND TREES WITH MY FEMALE OR BY HIMSELF BUT OTHER DOGS HE JUST ISNT WHERE I WANT HIM TO BE. IM COMPLETELY CONFUSED TO WHAT TO DO. IVE NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN BEFORE.
Yepp, you need to definitely get the hound with other dogs. Not neccessarily that dog. Maybe you missed a growl????? Just pay close attention. Was the dog a male or female. Try it,,,,,hunt him with a strange female then try a male. It may be a little intimidation.//.....................TCB
NO IT WAS A FEMALE. I DONT BELIEVE IT WAS ANY FUSSING GOING ON. I BELIEVE HE HAS SOME SORT OF HANG UP. HE IS TO GOOD OF A PROSPECT TO GIVE UP ON. BESIDES HES MY BUDDY. I LIKE THE WAY HE HUNTS AND HIS MOUTH. ALSO HE TREES HARD BY HIMSELF. I HAD WANTED TO PUT HIM IN THE NITE HUNTS BUT THATS OUT FOR NOW. HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN VERY INDEPENTENT. MAY TO A FAULT?
Some dogs are slow to respond to new situations and dogs. In my opinion, a steady diet of hunting him with different dogs and situations will give him the confidence of performing well at all times. He will probably outgrow this stage.

I agree with Redtick....I have a female that didnt like to tree with other strange dogs when she was young. Just keep exposing it to stange dogs it will get used to them in time.
i also agree with redtick. I have a dog that did the same thing. I started to hunt him with lots of diffrent dogs and one day he just clicked.
I THANK ALL YOU GUYS. I REALLY LIKE THIS DOG. HE IS MY LITTLE BUDDY AND WE HAVE A LOT OF FUN TOGETHER. BUT HE HAS HIS FAULTS. THIS IS MY FIRST BLACK AND TAN. ALWAYS HUNTED WALKERS BEFORE. BY HIMSELF HE IS A NATURAL. STRAIGHT HARD GOING VERY GOOD TREE DOG. I DO BELIEVE HE WILL CLICK ONE DAY SOON. I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT I COULD HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY TO MAKE HIM BEHAVE DIFFERENTLY. GUESS I WILL TRY IT AGAIN TOMORROW NITE. AGAIN I APPRECIATE ALL THE ADVICE. OH GOING SUNDAY TO PICK UP 8 WEEK OLD FEMALE BACK AND TAN PUPPY. BO AND HUNZIKER BRED.
