I think it's safe to say that....

After timbering, chopped up woods and just over time that the coon around here are heading under ground more then ever before. We have been averaging about 50-60% of are tracks ending in a ground hole anymore. The dogs don't stay unless they can see it, but man I don't remember it being this bad.

It seems just 10 years ago, 90+% ended with the dogs on the wood. Heck.....maybe it's just the dogs I got right now.

Anybody else seeing this or is it just me and my dogs?

Man I went to Ohio huntin about a month ago!! Yall got plenty of tall timber to hunt... Down here we got almost no mature hardwood forest left its all been cut! Our state tree might as well be a 5 foot tall pine!! You turn loose here your going through a nasty thicket 95% of the time! Not many ground dens though but the only trees the loggers leave are old hollow trees so we get alot of den trees.

Yea, I think its safe to say It could always get worse.

The trees have definately gotten smaller here too, Rather than complaining about them, Im thankfull for the rock dens we have. Break them of treeing in a hole, saves a lot of headaches.

yes it could be worse,
No tracks, no signs of coon, even with good to excellent dogs that can track real old ones still cannot pick up a track.
That is what I am dealing with.
Got to go 1/2 hour to 4 hours of a drive just get some coon.
