Next tom

This next tom got a little WESTERN. We took a few pics with the lion getting a little antsy a couple times, but was easily coaxed out of coming down. All of a sudden he was coming down the tree with a vengence. He was around 10 feet from the ground, locked on to a friend of ours and his dog, snarling and growling, with one of our dogs tied to a tree a few feet from them, when Clint grabbed the pistol, and changed his mind for good.
Enjoy!!

Both of these lions will stick in our mind for a long time. Neither track was a give me...Both went several miles with some dry ground work, and kitty cat gamesalong the way. We were very proud of the dogs. Now is time for a FRESH track!!!! ENJOY!!!

Cat weights.....

The first cat weighed 141 lbs, but don't know the length
The second cat weighed 132 lbs and was 7'3" long
We just skinned Clint's yesterday and he did not have an ounce of fat on him and an empty belly. Maybe thats why he was cranky. It is our guess that he is an older cat, has some pretty good scars on his head.
We were definitely shocked by his weight when we put him on the scale...we thought he would go around 150. Scales don't lie, darn it!!!

Hi Darlene and Clint, WOW!! What beautiful pictures and Big Lions. Sounds like exciting hunts with long tracks and great hound work. All that time you put into breeding and training those ole Blue Hounds is paying off! Happy Holidays! Bill

Tim,

Old Smokey River with some Edisto River added later.
We started out with a few dogs from my dad's line, and
have made some outcrosses from there. Back to heavy
Smokey River mostly. Rocket is the only dog that was not
born on our place of the dogs we currently hunt.
Thanks for the compliments.....
Happy Hunting!!!

Bill Kooser

Good to hear from you!!! Hope you are healing quickly so you can get that Kid pup back in your hands!!
We may as well thank you in public for the "Blue" pup that helped us get started on the male side of things. We bred him to 2 of our females with great results. Will always wonder what would have come from breeding straight to "Blues" daddy. I have a soft spot for the old S.R. Diamond Jim blood, which is how we ended up with your phone # in the first place. Lee Smith was gracious enough to visit with me and I told him what I was looking for and he was able to give me several leads. Seems like ages ago, but we are very thankful for the friendship that has developed since that 1st phone call.
Thanks again, and Happy Hunting when you are healed up!!!
Darlene
P.S. Thought I would sign this one, probably too sappy for my cave man husband!!! LOL

Christmas Day kitty

Treed this guy on Christmas day. Turned Rocket and Lager out around 1:30, ran him for better than 6 miles, and had him treed well before dark, but we had a long treck into the dogs, and had to gather them up and walk away. Ugh!!!

The pickup thermometer read as low as -19 below that morning while running the roads looking for tracks. Was about -4 when we turned loose, and around that when we got to the dogs. Was a long cold walk in and out, BUT VERY WORTH IT!!
We tried to guess which way the cat would head when he left the tree that night, and found his track crossing a road several miles from where we left him.(We did NOT want to have to walk the dogs back in to the tree to start him again!!) We decided to put Lucky and Lager(2yr old brothers) and Rattler and Rip(1yr old brothers) down to run this cat. We turned loose around 9:30, and after several miles of very tough country and kitty cat cat games, the boys gotter done by 1:00.

more pics

This cat never moved a muscle until we had most of the dogs tied back and whipped around and started out of the tree. We were able to coax him to stop, and our friend was able to shoot him.

Was awesome to have my mom, dad and brother along for this one!!! Logan was along too, but we could not coax him out of the pickup to join us for pictures.

Cat weighed 152 lbs. and was an even 7 ft. long.
Enjoy!!!

more pics

I did get a pic of Logan tying dogs back.

We walked Roxy(1yr. old) and Kitty(will be a year old next month) into the tree so they could tree and chew on the cat. They liked it and of course, we did too!!!

Very true. The scales don't lie. I would like to commend you for taking the time to weigh them on an actual scale, instead of just making exaggerated "guess"timations. I know it isn't always possible to get them all on a scale. But to often we see pictures and here stories of 200 lb lions that were 9 feet long. Thank you for giving us the accurate weights. It shows your honesty and integrity as houndsmen and hunters.

Great pictures, and nice cats. I'm fortunate enough to get in on some dandys up in Alberta. But where I live here in North Idaho, it's tough to find cats of the same quality anymore, as the ones you have shown. Great job, nice hounds, and beautiful pictures.

I have to agree with Dustin. Those toms looked pretty studley in the tree. I know it is hard to take the time to take good photos as some races will wear a guy thin. It seems like the only area that you guys could improve on. Please don't take me wrong, cause it sure looks like you are grinding it hard to get ahead of others and your dogs are definitely "dialed in".
