I priced them at the last hunt for $ 49.00 I told the old lady I would bet they were getting them from China for $ 3.00 not bad just wanting to make the same kind of proffet margin as our health care people. LOL
Thanks Will I will go see what I can do at Radio shack.

Will thanks i cant see paying that much for a antenna when i can make my own. okie this antenna from radio shack is not the same as they sell from garmin but it should work just fine.

Posted by ysudep2 on 12-22-2009 10:32 PM:

I personally think the antenna that comes on them does just as well as the telescoping one. If you are gonna spend the money buy a long range antenna and use it when needed.

I bought one for the top of my truck. I think they make one you can cary with you though don't they? In the kind of country I hunt in at home the one that comes on it and the truck one is probubley all I will need.

Look at Valley Creek's site. They have a pretty neat telescoping antenna that you can use in place of your rubber one that comes with the unit. I think I'm gonna try one out when I get around to ordering one...

i bought one of the folding telescoping antennas , i get maybe 200 yards extra. not worth it to me. I still use it to make myself feel good. just cant spend that much money and just throw it away. It could be my system though, i only get .9 miles under normal circumstances.

same one at radio shack and a bunch cheaper.

Posted by PaytonWP on 12-23-2009 04:59 AM:

ya the folding telescoping antennas dont pick up much better than the rubber ones, but it does make it a lower profile and the antenna dont stick you in the side when bending over like the rubber ones

What do you ask for at Radio Shack? Do you just ask for one for a Garmin or does it fit on something else too?

thats all i get out of mine to, does anybody get better?

Posted by coondogless on 12-26-2009 10:50 PM:

I have tested all of them and they all have special uses and pros and cons.
In my testing the
magnetic antenna picks up the farthest
Long range handheld is next
Folding telescopic antenna is next
Rubber factory antenna is last.

I am willing to demonstrate to anyone that wants to see what they will do.
I have had the rubber antenna on and lost the dogs. Changed over to the folding antenna and picked them back up. Range varies from night to night but I have got 1.5 miles with the folding antenna a few times.

Bruce sells all of them from his website or over the phone. He has as good a price or better than anyone. His website is linked in my signature.
Hope this helps.

I'm going to be ordering this one to try. It looks SCARILY SIMILAR to the ones being sold by the hound supply places! I can't compare the specs because the hound supply places either don't know the specs of their antennas or don't want to share them!

thats what mine does, could it be some kind of setting on the 220?even with the roof top it says the same thing?

Posted by Wes Wilkins on 12-29-2009 05:38 AM:

Im only getting about half a mile with my rubber antenna. My buddies are getting about 2 miles out of theirs. I had a lot higher expectations out of this system. Mine is only about 3 weeks old. They have had theirs a year or so. Thanks, WES
