Treadmill

I was thinking about getting a treadmill for our hounds, if anyone experience, suggestions, or recommendations I would really appreciate it! Thank you!

A friend of mine uses one, and has really good luck with it. He keeps it in his storage room, and when he has a hound he isn't hunting that needs to drop a few pounds he runs them on the tread mill for 30 min or so.

I have used a treadmill in the past and it worked great. Had a few dogs that didn't care for it or were harder than others to keep on it. But then had one in particular that loved it. Set the distance and he'd get on it on command without a lead or being tied. He'd run the course without having to keep an eye on him. The results were positive.

Just be careful you don't burn their pads off.

carpet or slat mill is the only way to go

Thank you all very much for all the replies. When I first was looking at getting one I was just going to buy one for people, but then I was reading about dog treadmills and some of the comments were that the ones for people would not withstand the dog hair or thier nails. So I decided to go for a treadmill made for dogs. Any suggestions for a brand or where to get one. I found one website....petzenproducts.com looked pretty ligite.

I've never used one but I have a few friends that swear by Grand Carpet Mills.

The Grand Carpet Mills is much less expensive then some of the others as well.

I have asked Santa for one!

(Santa is bad about bringing me hunting gifts like guns and deer stands)

Merry Christmas!

If you can find the "RED RIVER CURLY" invest in it.
Stay away from the electric ones, there a waste of money, unless you do not plan on useing it very often. There convenient, but thats all they are.
I have burnt up 2 electric ones useing them on the dogs.
The manual ones' are the ones' you want to get.
#2 Dogtrotter is an excellant choice.
#3 Grand Carpetmill
In that order.

One suggestion make sure the dog has had a bowel movement before you put it on the mill or else you will be cleaning there mess up, not good.
Don't over work the dog either. If you over work the dog on a regular basis you run the risk of kidney damage.

There a great tool if used wisely.
Good luck

I know, why not just kill two birds with one stone and just take them hunting. Then you could take that fancy treadmill money and give some poor kids a christmas. Sorry couldnt help myself.

We have one .. I wanted it to run the dogs on some, I can get one of the dogs & our pointer to walk on it if I stand there and keep em on it but Prancer spazed right out when I tried him.
How long? and at what speed do you all run your dogs at?
