Tips to getting a dog to bark on track?
Ok i have a 1 year and 3months old walker. He does tree coon on his own. BUT he is a silent track dog. Do you guys have any tips on how i could get him to bark on track? I was thinking maybe getting a cage coon turning it loose and at the hot track keep him on a lead and pet him real good and try to build him some more confidence. But tell me if you guys think of anything better.
thanks its my first dog ever.

I don't have a recipe to get a hound to bark on track...however........Allowing a dog to see cage coon...then turning the coon loose will tighten a dog up on track......over-doing daytime cage coon will make some hounds silent on the ground...all you'll hear is treebark.

Silent
I agree with james hear to much of one thing tends to have a negative response. Some hounds are just silent by nature maybe old shaggy is just going to be silent track dog. Bella is silent on some tracks and opens up very nicely on others depends on the track.

WHERE IT'S A PLEASURE TO HUNT!
put him in some real thick cutovers, or some heavy swamp land...cause him to bog down and get frustrated, start barkin on grack...
TIME Just give him time if he is going to bark on track it will be on his time not yours. My buddy has a walker male that was 2 1/2 yrs old before he started barking on track regularly.
They either will or they won't, not much more to it. wd
berking on track
i bought a old black gyp to run a couple youngred dogs with they told me she was mouthy on track i have had her to open on about 4 tracks when she does open it ma be 3or4 times if it runs a far pice other than that she just comes up treed
i love a semi silent hound!!!!!!!

This is a subject that I am very intrestred in. I think this is a problem that is increasing in todays hounds. I think that people are so hung up on breeding to get a "powerful treedog" that are disregaurding tracking ability. I have alway been a firm believer in the fact that if one can work a track they will learn to get it to a tree. I am willing to wait a little longer for the treeing to come! Give me one that can work a track and i will have a coon. That being said, i guess tight mouth dogs sneak up on the coon before he has time to run. I guess the debate goes on.

i think petting will not do the trick .get a few dogs and let them at a coon . hold your dog until he barks then let him go. do this a few times
Just hunt him.he'll either bark on track or he won't
