Jumping dog
Can anyone give me some advise on how to break a dog from running and jumping up a tree???
A bungee cord!
Serious. If you have a dog that likes to take a run and jump when he does that the bungee cord will slam him down on the ground. He'll get the picture after a little while!
;P

Very good idea Christy.I'm passing your advice on to a couple of people with this problem.Might work.
Roger:
I'm being totally serious.
Think about it. You're a coondog. You've got a coontreed. You decide to run and jump on the tree and WHAM!! all of a sudden you get slammed down into the ground. You get up, shake your head, and try it again. WHAM!! that dam$ thing is slinging me on the ground. I'll try it this way WHAM!!
I give up.
After a few times of getting your head slammed on the ground after you jump, you'll figure out that jumping is NOT A GOOD THING.
WHAM!!

Hey Christy,
I laughed when I first read it but it does make sence!!!
I am going to try and rig up some kind of contraption that I can carry along with me in the woods so I can quickly set it up and hook a dog up.
Will keep ya posted.

your right christy,it should work as i had a young walker in the early 70's that jumped on the tree .we had an old apple tree that had big roots coming up out of the ground and i would lead the coon to the tree and chase it up the tree and tie it's string to a limb so it couldn't get away and go put the pup on the trail and when it treed would tie it's lead strap to the root and give it enough lead to put his feet on the tree and when he would jump he would get fliped when hit the end of the lead.i woul go into the house and watch him from the window and when he slow down on the barking would sic him back to barking.he couldn't see me and after awhile he liked sitting at the tree better than standing on or jumping on it.....the bungee cord would have been easer on his neck but back then that would have been a luxurey for a poor boy as we used our horse leads for the dogs too.

If you take a eye bolt that can be screwed into the bottom of the tree and then attach the bunge cord to this and then the other end to the dogs collar. What goes up must come down and then back off and when he quits jumping pet him. repetion is the key.
