GPS Navigation Help (off topic)

I’m going to be traveling a lot this next year to hunts, vacation, and etc.

What’s the best and easiest GPS to use for the money ?

I want the (most important) following features:
1. Works in (satellite signal) bad weather, or dense cover
2. Turn by turn directions
3. Recalculates you destination if you miss your turn

Thanks,

KG

I got the cheapest Tom Tom at Radio Shack and its took me all over the Country, Love it, use common sense with it. 139 dollars.

.

I highly recommend the TOM TOM. I do not think the cheapest one gives voice turn by turn though. Having the voice prompts is an absolute must in my opinion!
Amazon.com had the best price when I bought mine plus it was reconditioned making it even cheaper and still came with a warranty. Still works perfectly after about a year and a half!

There may be another one cheaper now, mines 3 years old, but it gives voice prompts, in several different languages, if you want. LOL

Garmin Nuvi is the way to go. very slick and easy to use. i would buy the widescreen version. bigger the screen the better. i had the regular screen then my wife took it over and i got the wide screen version and like it way better. they are great for the hunts when you are not familar with the area. when i get to a clubhouse i mark it. when you get done you just hit "go to" and takes you right back. or if you are done hunting and want to go home just hit "home" and takes right there.

Yeah, I think their cheapest model at this time does not have the voice but voice may have been included on all their models when you bought yours. Alot has changed in three years but the voice option is the only way to go!

I've used both the Garmin Nuvi (not sure which model) and the Tom Tom (again, not sure which model).

I prefer the Tom Tom. It has a couple of features that I like. Ex. it shows you the speed limit for a section of road, asks if you want to avoid toll roads. It also shows how much time left, the Garmin just gives an arrival time. It could just be a difference in models

Do the Garmin models have voice turn by turn guidance? If not, I would not even consider one! If they do, there probably is not a nickels worth of difference in a Garmin and a TomTom!

Do you have to pay for a monthly service or just map upgrades ?

my wife has a garmin. it has voice turn by turn directions, tells you the speed limit and how fast you are going, also recalculates the directions on how to get where ever it is she is going.we don't pay no montly fee for it for her. all this is going by what she has told me about it.(I don't use a gps I use a map for anywhere I go.)

I bought the Garmin 255WT and it's simple to use.

Thanks for the info,

KG
