Have you tried plugging it in to your computer for updates? Mine wasn't getting but about 600 yards, and I plugged it in to my PC. It had lots of updates it had to do, and after I got them all done it works fine now.

This is exactly what I eluded to a couple of months ago on here about using these larger antennas and folks kept swearing it would not damage the connectors on the Garmins because they were not that heavy! I guess here is a good example!

The main thing is that little wire in there that connects, it looks almost like the inside of a coax cable.
That would be easy broke and it must be lined up well before screwing in any antenna, whether it is the large one, the rooftop or the short range one that comes with it. That wire can be broken with any of them.
You just gotta be careful any time you switch out antenna.

I want everyone to know that an investment into a Garmin GPS will be the best investment you will ever make. You will be so satisfied with their product. And the service is even better. I have a Garmin Astro Tracker and I also have four Garmin Nuvi 205 automobile units. One of the automobile GPS’s got damaged by being closed in the car door. I phoned Garmin about possibly getting them to repair it, being it was brand new. This was on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 that I spoke to a Garmin tech, Josh Moran. Josh told me if I would return it and he gave me the Garmin mailing address that he would take care of it. I shipped it the following day Thursday, November 19, 2009 to Garmin. Monday, November 23, 2009 I received another one to replace it at no charge. I just want everyone to know these people go above and beyond for their product. I have never received this kind of service on a product, nor have I been treated as nice about the whole thing. So if you are considering one of their products, I would absolutely recommend them.
