bloody stools help

couple nights ago while hunting my young dog i did his first drop routine of takin a Sh!t right after i turn him

he then went in and i walked up and noticed he had a slight amount of red streaks in his stool, i thought nothin of it other than he must have worms, i wormed him the next day

last night while hunting him he crapped 2 times , both stools had bllod in them , after that he acted like more had to come out but nothing but a couple drops of blood came out. after pulling him off the tree i seen he had a drop of blood rolling down his butt--- i couldnt stand to look at it so i grabbed a handfull of leaves a went to wipe it off,lol and he yelped and sat down immediately, this worried me and i put him in the truck for the night.

i researched it and think he may have an infection of his anal glands but not sure, i use Safegaurd horse wormer and feed him purina pro plan and he is in hunting shape and looks and acts very healthy,,, he would have hunted all night if i let him

i thought that maybe some of it is from treeing so hard because i have heard of dogs treeing so hard they **** blood after they tree but i think he would be doing it since he started.

i'm taking him to the vet but just wondering if anyone has any idea of what it is

My guess is hookworm. Our male had the samething. I gave him a shot of Ivormic and wormed him 3 days in a row with Safe Guard and that fixed him right up.

I don't know if this is the same thing. But I had a female that would clean out as soon as you got her out of the dog box. Then after a drop or a making a tree as you would be walking out she would stop and try to go and give little drops or squirts of blood. I wormed her and did everything, the vet said if was nerves. She would get so nerved up to hunt that she was releasing blood from the anal glands. She did this mostly in competition hunts and not as much while pleasure hunting. This may sound crazy, but she was clear of worms and it never hurt her, she was just that wound up to hunt. Hope this helps and I hope that nothing is seriously wrong with you hound. Alan Kalal

Check the dogs gums. Pale gums are a good indicator of hooks along w/weight lose.
If I were you I'd be switching that safeguard (horse wormer) over to the safeguard sheep/goat wormer.

safeguard sheep/goat wormer............Yep, thats what I use! Whatever is says for a goat, double amount for the weight of your dog.

They say it is a very safe wormer. Can give it to them everyday for the rest of their life and not hurt them, least that is what my vet said and what I read on the WWW.

my older dog would do this after treeing so long took him to vet for complete check and he said stress, has not happened for 3 years since

Blood

When my Brutus dog was young he would pass blood in his feces. This would only happen after he had been put under stress...i.e- tree real hard run rough long track. I also stopped feeding him chicken based feed I was told this is the main culprit for blood in stools. I don't know if this is fact or fiction but it worked on him. I rotate out on the wormers monthly. I rotate between the Safeguard Goat Wormer, Zimectrin Gold Horse Wormer and the regular Safeguard horse wormer. The Zimectrin gold will kill any worm and even kills skin mites.

i had a redbone that couldn't express his anal glands on his own, and when they would "fill up" he would be trying crap all day long but nothing would come out and he'd actually try so hard he blew his anal glands and nothing but blood would come out, when he wasn't trying to crap he would scrap his butt across the ground trying to express them... its possible your dog could have an anal gland problem? Hope you find out what is wrong with your dog and its nothing serious.

I would recommend you take the dog to the vet. Take a stool sample with you. It could be coccidiosis which is a protozoan parasite. It is contageous to other dogs. Deworming will not help this condition, and coccidiosis can be fatal if not treated correctly. Coccidia can reproduce sexually and asexually. So, sometimes can be difficult to cure quickly. Usually if infested with this you will see blood clots in the dogs stools. Not trying to scare you, but my vet says it can quickly get out of hand. Hope your hound is better soon! Amy

we took him to the vet yesterday, the vet ran several several tests on him to find nothing, vet said it could be caused by a 100 different things.

he is normally on pro plan and i ran out and feed another dog ultra 26/18 so i fed him that for a couple days and vet said this is the cause???? i figured maybe a little but it seemed a little much.

the dog acts fine and looks fine, i have no clue what the problem is

ive seen it happen with numerous dogs while out hunting, nothign wrong with them at all in these specific cases

Panacur is good but it won't kill tapeworms.Droncit will kill all worms except heartworms.

i have a six year old male same problem been to vets several times only thing found enlarged prostate had anal glands cleaned a couple times this has been going on for a while and what found is certain feeds make it worse we feed him purina puppy chow soft and crunchy bites works best. this dog does not have worms !!! good luck jim

my trip to the vet cost about 100, lol

pretty ridiculous, they charge you 15.00 to just call them and 30.00 right when you walk in door for office visit

bloody stools

Purina Pro Plan makes a Sensitive Skin and Stomach formula and you mentioned that you feed Pro Plan. Just thought that I would mention this. The first three ingredients are salmon and oatmeal and rice if my memory is correct. Great coats and no allergy type symptoms since there is no corn, wheat or soy in the food. The oatmeal is supposed to be soothing to the stomach and entire digestive tract.
