I don't feed BG, but, it seems in the past this type thing became a chain reaction. Just wondering what we should be worried about this time.

Spoke with Black Gold rep. and owner they insured us there are no issues with their products.

Voluntary Recall

I am the Customer Service Manager for Black Gold Pet Food and there is absolutely no truth to this voluntary recall. Black Gold has never been part of any recall. We have in the past replaced some feed due to distributors and/or dealers not storing it properly, or letting it get wet. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to call me at 1-800-598- DOGS (3647) Sincerely Alan Bauer Vienna, MO

Thanks for the response on this matter.

About a month ago i got a shipment of Black Gold 23/16 Silver that had a 2010 expiration date stamp. When i opened the bags there was a real strong smell. The dogs did not eat the feed well at all. I had some customers complain about the same thing. I sent a sample to the distributor and it was sent to a lab. The results came back as "RANCID". I have no idea how widespread this problem is.

I had the same problem a couple of months ago , the bag stunk when I opened it . I took it back to my feed dealer and they replaced it . The bad feed was the black bag so I took a bag of the red . A couple weeks later I went back to my dealer and they said that it was in fact bad dog food . They said their dist. wanted me to have a free bag for my trouble .

no problem here

never had a problem with black gold and if i ever do i'll still use it, everyone makes mistakes and sometimes it isn't the company's problem... remember the firestone/ford scare??

There is a batch of 26/18 black bag that is being recalled in the west. Same thing rancid.

AlanB - any comment

Rancid feed

If you store or warehouse feed in a metal warehouse or building it continues to cook at whatever temperature the warehouse is. In the summer time some warehouse can be in excess of 110 degrees, in some case it can be over 150 degrees. We have replaced some feed that this has happen to as I said in my first post. We however have not had a recall. Black Gold stands behind their products 100% and if there is a problem we take care of it. I assure everyone that there has not been a recall issued on any Black Gold Dog Food. Alan Bauer

Here is what I was told , someone at the place of manufacture put double the amount of a preservative in , chicken fat maybe ? not real sure . Anyway they admitted to having a crappy batch of dog food and they rectified the situation almost immediately . That was good enough for me . Heck , even I can screw up supper once every few years !

SORRY YOU GUYS ARE HAVING TROUBLE THATS WHY U NEED TO BE FEEDING SOUTHERN STATES NO PROBLEMS LIKE THAT HERE. WE MAKE OUR ON FEED AND HAVE QUALITY CONTROL PEOPLE CHECKING IT BEFORE IT GOES IN A BAG.

Quit feeding Black Gold when they left Dexter and went to Sunshine Mills. Feed was never the same. Love the dog food out of Dexter.

Amen! My feelings exactly. The old product was top shelf. Ever since the change, just another mediocre, inconsistent, over priced dog food.

Why not quit trying to run down Black Gold. You're just trying to convert people to your food.
