1st off i read alot of the previous post on the subject. just have a couple questions.
if you had a dog with it what breed was it?
i have heard that a beaver carcass will get most dogs through this, has anyone personally done this, or know anyone directly that has?
thanks for direct response and any help, my buddy has a nt.ch. walker male he bought , he is a very new hunter and 1st dog he has truley liked.

Wade,
It don't believe it is breed specific. The fact is any dog can get it.
I don't know if they know the exact cause, but I have read were some vets think it affects the immune system due to exposure to a particular protein found in raccoon salvia. It is believed to be a genetic trait.
I have never heard the thing about feeding beaver meat, but based on my knowledge of immune system I would be skeptical.
There is a wealth of information out there. Have you goggled it yet?

Had a redbone get it a few yrs. ago,an old timer told us to give her goat milk mixed with honey. We pulled her thru but she was never any good after.A friends bluetic got it and the vet gave antibiotics and stiaroids,he still hunted but not as hard.

My uncle had a redbone get it and he recovered to nearly 100% of what he was before. Was high scoring redbone in purina race one year after having coon dog paralysis.

TW female she's had it twice. Vet gave antibotics and streoids. She'll still hunt but don't quite have the go she used to. It's some bad stuff and its hard to watch a dog go thru it.

Had a fiest get it.
Your Right,
I looked it up, Racoons do have Saliva Glands, so the old bit about washing their food is mostly hog wash.\
Coppied this off the web.
DO RACCOONS WASH THEIR FOOD?
By the way, we often hear or read that raccoons don't have salivary glands, so they often dunk their food in water before eating it. It's true that raccoons often manipulate their food in or near water before eating it, but they do have salivary glands. In fact, when veterinarians check to see if a raccoon is infected with the rabies virus, saliva from the animal's salivary glands is checked with fluorescence micrography.
