RQE question and comments
Do you have to hold a certain number of ukc events to host a RQE? If so, how many? If not, why not?

quote:I do not believe the number of events you hold would have anything to do with getting one. What your club has to do is write the UKC Field Operations dept. and request one. You will be put on a consideration list, but if the clubs in your area that have been holding them are drawing well, i think even the UKC will tell you that chances are slim of getting one. None-the-less, you should get put on the list if you want one.

Dosen't have something to do with size of the club also, to make sure they have enough guides and judge.
It could have some effect, but i would surely hope that any club who is requesting such an event , would first contact the sister clubs in their area for support. An RQE is not something that a club should try to go out on alone, although there are those who are large enough to do so.

I have never heard of an RQE useing satellite clubs for help. I'd bet any club that can't handle an RQE alone won't get one.

Not all of our clubs get along.
I am pretty sure the club needs to be able to take it on there selves. I've only seen some of the larger clubs take it on in our area.
quote:thats exactly the point i was making. And Tood i feel for you. our clubs down here in my area all get along very well, and regularly help each other out. Our friendship even extends across the state line into South Carolina. Sure makes things a lot easier, and much more enjoyable when you get along with your neighbors.

I dont think he is talking about satellite clubs. When we have a large events at our club we will call members of another club 15 minutes away and they will come over and help out as guides.

Robert, what I am saying is that every RQE I have ever been to used the guides that showed up at the hunt, mostly hunting guides, an occasional non-hunting guide. But the host club has always covered the guides without asking a sister club to take casts. That doesn't mean guides that are members of other clubs don't guide casts, they do. But they all giude out of the host club.
money
our club is plenty big enough it has even hosted akc world my qu is that if there is not a number of events that it should go to aclub that supports ukc. i believe ukc would want to help a ukc club not a pkc or akc club. why should that club get the money if thats the only way the help ukc. i would like to see a set number of events to be abel host an RQE!!!!!

Columbia City, Kokomo, Wyatt and Hamilton all host RQE's every year. Your club is surrounded by RQE's and they are all good clubs. That is prolly why they can't get one.
i am not saying weve even tried just saying you have to host a certian number of (UKC) events this has absoltly nnothing to do with my club

Jim, what i meant was that we talk to guides from sister clubs, and yes they would hunt out of the one location. As far the PKC/AKC clubs, we were not talking about them, although some hold all 3 registries events, but hunt for the same coons, using the same guides. What was intended, is to promote a sense of partnership, and cooperation. Maybe up north, there are stand alone clubs, that could hold the event, and never have a guide from somewhere else, but down here, we all work together, even on our local event nights. We are drawing from the same pool of dogs, and are all within 45-50 minutes drive time from one another. It just makes better sense for us to cooperate, instead of bickering.

UKC only allows a set number of RQEs a year so unless some other club decides to quit having one, the chance of getting one is slim to none, we've tried before

RQE
Requests for a 2010 RQE had to be sent in by Oct of this year. I requested some for our local clubs but haven't heard back yet. Call Allen G. at UKC and he can give you all the info. He was a big help to me in our states RQE requests. Good luck.

Jason I think you need to call UKC becasue you are not getting any diffinent answers here.
Peggy Benson is correct in that it's usually difficult to accomodate a club with an RQE due to the fact that we have a limited amount each year. So the procedures I use is; look at all the RQE numbers of each club for the previous year. Clubs just not getting the numbers we'd like to see relative to their area are subject to losing it and it opens up an opportunity for another club. Of course, this is where I check the request file to see what clubs in the area would like to be considered when an opening is available. As much as I would like to be able to accomodate all clubs requesting a RQE; it is just not possible.
Yes, there are several factors I look at when deciding which club will get the available RQE. Clubs with good numbers, an area where there might not be any RQE's, and so on. Brand new clubs will seldom get one over a good club who has been in existence and done well for a while. Believe me; there are a lot of good clubs that don't currently have one that would like to be considered.
As far as the 2010 schedule goes; it has been scheduled. Letters will go out in the next few days to all clubs who had a request on file to let them know whether or not it could be approved. I would hope clubs understand that we can not always accomodate them with an RQE and that they don't get frustrated when we can't. Instead they should simply get a Request for Consideration letter in prior to October 1st if they want to be on the list for the next year. And, it's never too early to send one in! Send them to:
