With two 2.5 yr olds and two 7 month old pups starting to run. At least 6 nights a week if not 7. We head out about an hour after dark and make as many drops as we can by 12:00. I have a boy thats 14 that has school the next day. He does fine for those who are wondering and he won't be left home, he has his own dogs and not scared of the dark at all. We hunt dogs alone also, we do not pack hunt.

5-7 Nights a week, we also have a busy schedule other than hunting so we are kind of forced to take a night of here or there...Its usually just me and my sister, we'll both take a dog and make 2 drops with those two and then they each get a drop alone or two....

I have been hunting as many Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays as I can. Monday nights is Boy Scouts. Tuesday night is Cub Scouts.

My boys hunt with me on the weekends. Typically, we make about 3-5 drops. We are pushing my oldest son's dog right now so we only drop singles.

I try to hunt 6 nights a week and make 5 to 6 cuts a night. I like my dogs to be like squirell dogs, if there's 10 coon in a woods I want my dog to try to tree them all and fast. My little walker female I have now is a fire ball that is a blast to hunt.

Posted by Richard Nethery on 11-17-2009 03:55 PM:

Im not hunting my hounds right now due to deer season, but when the season is out I normally hunt three nights a week, and dont make cuts, When the hounds tree a Coon, I normally walk them away from the tree, and send them out again.
I am blessed to live in an area, where my hounds have plenty of room to hunt.

Depends on the time of year.
Right now , deer season is in , so I'm deer hunting. ( wouldn't dare turn a dog loose right now )
In the spring , I'm turkey hunting.
In semptember , I'm bear hunting.
Once the snow flies , I'm running the beagles.
We have a quiet season in the summer.
Other than that , as much as I can stand. Usually tree 2 or 3 and go home. I work 12 hours shifts , so some nights are cut short.

HUNTING

I HUNT ABOUT 2-3 NIGHTS DURING THE WEEK DAYS - USUALLY COMP. HUNT SOMEWHERE ON THE WEEKEND NIGHT'S , WE MAKE ABOUT 3 DROPS NIGHT - DEPENDS REALLY ON HOW WE DO IF WE MAKE ANYMORE

Posted by JONAH on 11-17-2009 04:36 PM:

300+ nights per year

My son and I hunt 7 nights a week weather permitting in winter/summer. We dont hunt in the rain unless we get caught out in it or if its bitterly cold or in a snow storm. Usually 2 or 3 drops and on the weekend or my sons day off 4 or 5.

And there have been nights we should have stayed home but if we had we wouldnt have known it was a bad night. LOL

Average coon treed 300+ /yr
Amount of those killed maybe 50 to 60/yr
I believe once you kill it you cant run it again. Once a dog has figured out what its out there for it gets very few coon.

Gators keep me from hunting till October. Then 2 to5 nights a week through season. In November I turn out one at a time to make sure they do it right . Then I turn one out at a branch and let it get gone and rush on up to the far side of the next branch and turn out another and hope that one strikes one before he hears the first one open. If not, they'll get together. By December I'll be dumping 3 or 4 dogs together Cause I like dogs to work together. When I hunt salt marsh, I'll turn in 3-4 dogs, let them get struck and, depending on the race, hold another dog by the collar till I'm sure he hears them and keep feeding them in like that till I'm out of dogs. If one of my dogs hears a packmate open he won't tarry around getting to him. If I hunt with a friend with a strange dog to mine, they might split tree. Thats the trouble with competition hunting in the salt marsh. You might get four dogs spread out over the marsh doing their own Thing. But that Thing ain't catching coons because they won't or don't know how to work together.

See im the complete opposite ! I hate pack dogs with a passion. Funny thing is I do the same thing you do as far as cut one loose after one is already treed with a shock collar on it and it better not tree with the dog that's already treed or it will get its butt shocked. It will either ruin the dog or make it the way I like it to be. i have had great success doing this. To many coon around here for dang pack dogs.

Funny how it's different strokes for different folks. We got plenty of coon. I have many dogs. I have to kill every coon I tree or don't come back. I hunt by myself alot. I hunt big woods.

For alll those reasons I don't want dogs split up here and there. To be honest I get kind of bored listening to one dog.

I don't turn in another dog after a dog is treed. In my case what would that accomplish? I don't own a shock collar and on the rare occasion nothing is walking, they are free to come in and get petted for it. Keeps me from worrying about a dog grabbing a tree just to make me happy.

Posted by Okie Dawg on 11-17-2009 10:30 PM:

Yep and I like both kinds. Lyle your type would be a pleasure dogs for me to hunt. Then Treberta's would be comp. I really like both. I don't do any buddy hunting unless I am in comp. I don't have any dogs ready to be put out with others yet. My black dog is close but not quite there yet.
I would love to get out on some buddy hunts after he is ready though. I think it would be a blast to get out with others on a pleasure hunt.
