kennel floor

im building a house and gunna build me a kennel. just cant decide on how to build it. a slab would be the easiest to clean and take care of it seems like. but is it as hard on a dog as what people says it is? i like the treated wood floor about 2 inches apart too. any opinions? post some pics too!!!!

we have never had nothing but concret,if you hunt enough
he should rest all day and be waiting on you.
the only problem with wood is fleas.

If you use wood 2 inches apart is too much. Don't go more than an inch.

I currently have mine on concrete because the house i bought had an old brick building behind it that already had a concrete floor. I have used wood before with good results.

Doug those are some good looking kennels. Did you use 1x or 2x for your flooring.

can i steal that design to build mine?

I like cement. You can sanitize them. I like to make a troff at the end and tie it into a 4" PVC then run the PVC to a septic tank. A 55 gallon drum will work for a long time.
I like a smooth finish on the cement. That makes it easier to clean and sanitize and allso easier on there feet. If you ever get parvo or something like that and you have wood with dirt under you might as well burn it or leave it for several years. Cement you bleach and go on.
If you ever have trouble with there elbows getting rough you can buy some 1" thick rubber mats pretty cheap.
I would use 9 gage wire too. I have had small dogs eat there way threw hores wire and cheap chain link.

I keep most of my dogs on just plain old dirt, but I've toyed with the idea of buying some rubber stall mats from somewhere like Tractor Supply and putting them down in the pens where I have dogs that dig. My only concern is that it will get messy when they urinate on it. Figured I would buy just one and give it a try for a few days...that way if it doesn't work I'll only be out $40. Anybody else used rubber mats in their kennels before?

i would say the pvc would cut some cost how did
you get the concret in them,once they bow that
will be the end of it great ideal on the concret

It depends on where you live. If you plan on staying at the house you're in, you might as well go with concrete. If not, I'd go with wood. If you do go with concrete, have a resting platform for the dogs to lay on.

ive got 10x10 runs divided so there 5x10's . ive got my dogs on 3/4 inch treated plywood . i've had concrete at one of my previous homes and it was twice as hard to clean .

Definately go with a smooth, not slick, finish. I just spray off and use a squeegee to dry.

not mine but these are the exact same as my kennels and THE BEST setup i have ever seen.

top rails are 8ft. bottom rails are 10ft,so i can leave 2 ft over hang out past the rear legs to set the house on. from top of top side rail to bottom of bottom side rail is 40 inches.so i can use 3 ft high fence or material and it lands about in the middle of the side rails so i can attach it. outside rail to outside rail for the floor is 41 1/2 inches.i run the rails on the inside of the legs. the front and back is 4 ft wide, i run the 4 ft cross braces in the front and back accross even with the outside of the legs. that way i can nail or deck screw the cross braces to the top side rails and bottom side rails at the ends and to the face of the legs, it kinda interlocks the whole deal.if you look close at my pics you can get a idea of what im saying.(click on the pic to enlarge them).the legs are 6ft 4x4's.i have made them for others that are on 5 ft legs so the dog can jump in it without help. i have found the extra ft keeps the flys on the ground and not buzzing the dogs as much w/ the 6 ft legs.plus i can rake under them without getting on my knees..............TC
