Lost dogs, been found

We always hear about the dogs that have been stolen or lost. It would be nice to hear a success story too.


- How many have found there dogs ????
- How did you find them???

3 years ago at a decent sized hunt I was the guide. Our dogs got out of pocket, we made the foolish decision to keep tightening up on them by foot. Eventually they had trailed out of hearing on an old bad track and we were in a bind. We went back to the trucks, drove around and around....finally gave up on the hunt part and got out the trackers. Tracking was spotty at best, signal weak and seemed to be weird. We did realize that they had entered a State Park, clearly marked/posted against trespassing after hours and against hunting. We sent the cast winner back to the clubhouse to get credit, he returned around 4am, his dog had come back while he was gone....the 2nd dog came in around 7am, mine was the only dog left...knowing the others were from out of state I sent them on so they could crash at their hotel rooms and I stayed alone.....Finally at 9am I decided to go home and take a nap. I napped til about 12:30, called the State Park information line and they got me in touch with the ranger...super nice, he met me at the gate and unlocked it for me to drive, gave me his cell phone and offered to drive me in the ranger boat if needed. When he left he did not lock the gates behind him but closed them and wrapped the chain giving me the lock and told me stay as long as you need, drive wherever you want, and if I can be of anymore assistance let me know, he promised that he and his wife would pray that my dog be found safe, all he asked was that I lock up when I leave.
I was able to finally find her treed in a massive hole in the side of a creekbank, she was in the hole which is why signal was sketchy, about 6 to 8 feet in, the hole narrowed and she was trying to dig in deeper, the coon was inside the hole deep, I could barely see him. When I got her out she was covered with red clay/mud, whickh is OK cause she was a Redbone....

She was not lost a long time, which I think was the point of the original post, but I thought I would share due to the outstanding and polite service/help I got from the Park Officials to retrieve my hound even though she was clearly on land that was marked for no hunting, the State Park Ranger was focused only on the fact that she was missing and needed to be found.

Chris for me just not knowing where one of my hounds are, puts me on edge. Lot of time goes into them plus I am sure you become friends with them.

thats good to hear,better than the warrdens around here,they would have told ya just wait and call em she or he will come back,just dont let us catch ya on the proprty or ya get a ticket.

We have the right to retrieve our hounds, just let authorities know. Dog Laws.

We do not

have that right here in NC.

I lost a young male once in Eastern NC, he was missing for 5 days...I was worried sick, normally i do not give up looking til I have my hound....
I left my jacket at the turnout like my grandad used to do with his rabbit beagles....day 5 I drive up to the hunting spot and there the dog is, laying on my jacket. I was so happy.

The real bad thing is that I had two different folks call that they had him, but when I would arrive he was gone...it was so frustrating to have him so close but gone again because they did not tie him up???? What was the point of calling if they could not keep him????? One wanted a reward cause they fed him.....I would gladly reward someone for calling and delivering my dog, but not for calling me and wasting my time.....

Had a friend lost his for 30 days after shocking him on deer. Hunted dogs in there all the time trying to get him to come in. People around said they see him every now and again. Finally one night he came to tree.
