-- state race points ? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=306994)

state race points ?

How's it work when a dog is transferred to another owner in a different state? Do the points transfer or do they stay in the original state. In this case the transfer was done in October.

Jermey, I think the dog has to earn the same amount of points, for the new owner for the other point to count also. Maybe someone else will reply.

So if the dog has 30 in Michigan I have to get 30 in Indiana. Otherwise she will be figured in with Michigans dogs?

Jeremy. It is my understanding that the dog had to be transfered prior to May 1st (I think thats the date) in order for points to transfer. I to thought that if a hound was transfered after this date that any points you accumilate in your own state would be matched with the points the dog had earned prior to transfer. BUT!!! I believe this did not get printed as part of the rules.
With this said I THINK that if a huond is transfered in October and has 30 points in Michigan and is sold to someone in Ohio that hound has to start over. It no longer has 30 points in Michigan.
I THINK THIS IS RIGHT BUT I MAY BE WRONG.
I looked it up last year and if memory serves me right this is the rules as printed in the American Beagler at the start of the program. Hope this helps.

Sundown

You are correct Dave. When transfering ownership of a dog after May 1st the previous States points will be lossed.

(Matching the points and keeping them ALL is a myth)
It was talked about at one time but it is not in the current Rules.

I understand not letting them switch states, but to erase the points they've already earned in a state seems a bit extreme to me. Why take away from a hound what it has already earned?

Will there be any changes to this for next year?

What happens to a dog transferred in the same state?

Does UKC have any way of knowing if a Hunting Beagle Champion or Grand Hunting Beagle Champion has competition or does UKC just go on the hunt reports?

The dog keeps the points because its owner is in that state.

That's ridiculous! If a guy in Michigan ten miles away from where I live in Indiana buys a Michigan dog it keeps its points, but if I buy it and bring it to Indiana it loses them. It just doesn't make sense. Hopefully this will be corrected in the future.

If this is an issue just pay the owner all but a dollar of the purchase price and agree to keep the dog in that owners name till the end of the year. Run the dog till the end of the year and then finish paying off the owner and then transfer the dog. The only catch is that the dog wont be in your name until the sale is complete at the end of the year. Your not breaking any rules because the dog is legally still owned by the origional owner. Its been done several time that I know of.

I thought about that a little bit earlier.
