Top Of Michigan Houndsman Association Big Coon Contest

Northern Michigan has some BIG coon so our local club decided to put on a one night Big Coon Contest. It's not unusual for most hunters to shoot coon over 20 pounds around here, even a couple 30 pounders every hide season so the club decided to see what the members could bring in in one night. Here's a few pics from the weigh-in this morning.

First Place went to Joe Tryban with a 34 pound coon.

2nd and 3rd place coon were tied at 22 pounds.

Have a great fall and get those hounds in the woods!

You guys should've been here! We had a good time. I tied for 2nd place. It took 'til 4 a.m. to find one big enough. Left a couple in trees and shot out 4 total. Hunted one cornfield and the rest were all out of big timber country.

You're right Jared, if Josey were still around she'd have jammed up a few more for me to look at but Sarah did a pretty good job. I'm training a pup from Josey's last litter out of Grnite Moonlight Big Time Bo and she's starting just like her mama.

Hey Tim, I think you better start catching some of those coon alive. I'm sure that the fellows in the deep south would love to have some of those big northern coon for studs. I know you said times are tough in the north, that would help. It looks like you had fun.

These big ol' coons aren't wise to poisonous snakes, they probably wouldn't last long!
