Dog keeps scatching
whats a good wash to try to avoid dog scratching all the time? he dont have fleas, may just be dry skin or something? thanks
what are you feeding him?
One of my dogs developed allergies to high grain dog foods - it seems as though all the dog food manufactures are messing around with their formulas. Might want to try some "grain free" feed - and, yes it is expensive.
Also try
If the food you feed contains corn, try a lamb & rice formula. I have a senior Plott allergic to corn - symptoms were head shaking, scratching & ear problems. Some dogs are also allergic to wheat. All problems disappeared with the removal of corn in my Plott's diet. Scratching & itching can be caused by a food allergy. Also check living quarters for irritations from bedding and other external contacts such as cedar chips and contaminated soil.

Sometimes it has to be fixed from the inside out. There is pill called Derm Caps which you can get from the vet to put oil into your dogs system. Another is to put a spoon full of oil (veg) on their food. It really helped an older border collie i had. Plus it made his coat look beautiful.

allergies
I have an AMerican Bulldog that has the same problem. I have done EVERYTHING. gave her garlic, oil, benedryl( like 15 a day) done the allergy testing it all, went to over 7 vets. NOTHING. i keep her on a maintance dose of Predisone now... she weighs about 90 lbs and i give her like 5mg's every other day and more if needed. that seems to help and it is inexpensive. Only downside is prednisone is a steriod.. i dont know what it will do to a coondog, beef it up a little i guess lol. let me know what you find out that works. i am willing to try whatever!

Prednisone
My dog has been on them for over a year, and she turns 2 in 3 months. It was horrible before.. Always itchin and bleeding and would get sores.. Only thing I noticed is it makes her pee all the time.. But if u got an outdoor dog, doesn't matter. Prednisone can be bad on the liver and kidneys with high continued doses.. Low doses every oter day or two isn't as bad and well worth it
