competition. question

idk if this is a stupid question or not but my buddy has a good english dog. he brought it to a comp hunt. he was doing pretty good then "fit hit the shan". on the 2 last trees they treed on he started chewin and got minused. i was just wondering if a wire muzzle would be allowed in hunts. (the wire muzzle would allow it to bark but not chew)

Dog can NOT wear a muzzle during a hunt. It's actually in the rule book.

How did he get minused? Did the 2 minutes catch him?

Break him from chewing. Where's that rule about muzzels ?

Posted by cj. on 10-13-2009 04:35 AM:

oops, wrong KC.

I couldn't find it in the UKC rules either.

There's one KC where you better not use a muzzle if you want him to have a fighting chance. That, or deck him out in a catch-dog or cop uniform.

Had to have been minused for not barking at least once on tree inside the 2 minute clock. He can chew all day if he wants, but he better stop and bark once every 2 or minused. MUZZLES are a NO NO.

I agree, I don't like muzzles either, but where does it say no muzzles?
Seems like I read before to. Muzzles say a lot about a dog.

I don't belive you will find the actual words as muzzle in the rule book. My opinion, and i could be wrong, is that a muzzle is a controling device, and therefore under section 20, can't be used. Again, it is just an opinion. Why would anyone want to muzzle a dog that would be put in a hunt? I think the honest answer would be to "control" a behavior. Whether the behavior is chewing or fighting, its to control, and that is how i draw my conclusion. Maybe some Offical interputation can be obtained.

Robert, thats only thing I read also. I thought that would be the answer. Thanks for helping confirm.

well, further info from Allen G. It is in the rulebook. I think you will find it in a boxed section, at the end of the scratched for fighting section. It simply says that dogs entered in UKC events can not be muzzled. That should clear it up well for all of us.
