He is right, it's like making hard candy. I cooked up several batches and he is also right about mess it makes. I just wanted to try making it to see if I could but I hardly ever use things like that anyway. I have nothing against it, but where I hunt there isn't any need.

I have tried with gummy bears I had left over from bear season well I put them in a pot and put in oven and melted all together. It really worked pretty good if it doesn't rain lol they also don't last as long as what im shure the actual coon licks do.

Cook four cups of sugar, 14 oz. of cheap pancake syrup, 14 oz of water, cook to 300 degrees, mix in 2 cups of cheap candy and pour into a 2 1/2 qt plastic paint container..Than put a screw eye in middle of mix while cooling down.. Let set-up for about 12 hours..Than put container in about a quart of hot water for ten seconds and your coon lix will come out of the container. All ingrediants can be bought at Walmart including a candy thermometer..Good luck..

I tried according to the instructions posted on coondawgs. They came out well, but unless you're going to make 100 at a time I didn't see where the cost of materials, time spent, ruined cooking utinsels and griping from everyone in the house (this project WILL smoke AND stink up your house) were worth more than a good ol bucket and some cheap dog food. They also pretty much melted away very quickly when sun or rain hit them, and seemed to feed fireants more than anything else.

i melted down some brown sugar and made a cake with it...turned out ok, but is a heap more trouble, and a lot of big mess, than it is worth.

whatever mix you decide to use, you can give it some real potency and drawing power by adding some anise oil, it works great and is a very powerful attractant to raccoons!

I use cheap peanut butter in plastic jars.Take the lid off of the jar and nail to tree with roofing tack.Screw the jar back on lid ad cut bottom off jar.Nail on tree about 6-7 foot up so the deer won't get it.

I made a few batch's this weekend.it is a pain and creates such a mess but it is cheap to do.I used several diffrent flavors/exctracts such as rassbery, strawberry, anise oil, maple extract and finally peanut butter.I will say if you dont stay on top of it while its cooking it sure can get away from you quick and burn up then smoke and stink.it took me three trys to get it right but once i did it was all down hill.

Never ask a man what kind of dog he has. If he has a hound he'll tell you, if he does not, you don't want to shame him by asking.
