This took me totally by suprise. I sat and visited with him last weekend about an hour at our last nite hunt. I don't know for sure how old Donnie was , but I'd guess about 65 ?
Donnie was a fun loving guy , very competitive , always joking around and very charismatic. He was one of those guys that could beat you and make you like it.
The man knew what a coondog was and had many great ones over the years . He was a very hard hunter and hunted with so many differant people , its hard to imagine how much this guy is going to be missed. Everybody in this area knew Donnie Hedrick and spent many nights hunting with him.
Very sorry to hear this and my prayers to the family. He will certainly be missed.

I hadn't see Donnie for a couple years but had a good visit at the Zone 4 hunt. Mike Boone, Jesse Dickerson and I visited about a few of our better hounds from years gone by. We all had a little imput on how we had been blessed and about getting older. Oh what a loss! We disscussed a hunt we had back in the mid-80's and how much fun it was. Donnie always had a smile on his face and enjoyed talking about his top walker hounds. A great loss to family, friends and community.
God Bless

I got this information from Squeak on my way home from the fall round up. I have hunted with Mr. Don and Ladies and Gentleman if you have never hunted with him it is a shame. Its a shame we lost MR. DON.
When I first met mr don It was down at the zones this year and was rubbin me pretty hard bout huntin a blue dog. I sat back and waited for the right time to get him back and I did. The night before Zones Mr. Don climbed over the fence to unlock it and open it and when we got down to the first drop I told him Mr. Don you guys down here are a backwards and I explained to him that we usually unlock and open the gates then walk threw. Oh Mr. Don got a little clammed up and went to a different conversation.
Those few days I did get to speak with Mr. Don was absolutely fantastic. Mr. Don I was really lookin forward to you and squeak comein up here to nebraska and pleasure huntin. There is no worries now you will always be lookin over us YOUNG PUPS as you put it that night in the woods.
Thank you for the good times Mr. Don and prayers sent to Mr. Dons Family.
My deepest sympathy
Luke Hauf
ps Squeck give me a call anytime if ya need anything or if I can help out in anyway.

This is hard,
We hunters in southwest Mo. are going to miss him more than we know at this time.
I started knowing and hunting with Donnie when I was 15 years old. The first time I drew him was at Jenkins, Mo. when we had the hunts at Jenkins Corner. I drew Donnie, Duane Clark and Calvin Johnson that night. I was hunting "Red Ranger" and I won the cast with the help of 3 guys that came to be really good friends.
Donnie knew a good hound, and he hunted a good hound or he didn't hunt.
It was an honor and a pleasure to call Donnie a really good friend.
We are and will continue to pray for the family That will miss him so much.

I just returned from Donnie's visitation, the huge crowd was honoring as good a friend as a man could ever have.
The letters that his Grandchildren had written to their Grandpa was the most touching part of all. Each one of them had written how much they loved him for doing the things that Grandpas like Donnie do. { huntin , fishin, riding horses, birthday parties, ballgames, and just having alot of fun with them.}
Best of all, almost every one of them knew what they had to do to see Grandpa again, and that was be good, love Jesus, and go to church.
Thanks Donnie again for being our friend!!!
Junior
It hurts almost more than I can stand just knowing he won't be with us at our next hunt!
