You’re only as good as your competition

I think it’s important to get away from your local hunting situation from time to time and test your dog’s mettle and your handling skills by hunting with some dogs and people in other regions that are known to be very proficient in the sport. It's too easy to develop an unrealistic assessment of your own perfromance.

You are only as good as your competition and getting out there is one of the best ways to sharpen your axe. These experiences always show me I've got a lot to learn.

Rick, you must travel far and away.........I would bet to venture that Nite Hunts in North Dakota are few and far between.

You have that right, and I've met many really great people and hunted with some nice dogs. This year we've hunted in SD, WY, TX, IN and OH and will be in IL later this month. It's an adventure.

I work for a consulting civil engineering company and we must compete against other firms for our work. We measure our success not only on the contracts we win but also the quality of our competition, recognizing that we need strong competitors to keep us sharp. I tend to carry that thinking into other things like coon hunting even though I really don't want to be serious about dogs. Happy hunting.

Couldnt agree more. Its easy to think you have Man-o-War when the only thing youve raced is a plow horse........................ya know I just might make that my signature. LOL

Larry, I suspect you know better than most the difference between a really good dog and just another dog. Happy hunting.

Rick, Add Iowa to your list and stop by for a hunt. Chad
