Night 2 for son's young dog.

First drop started and ended in a junk pile. We pulled her out of the junk and walked her back to a corn field and cut her north. She went about 70 yards and struck a track. The track worked north towards the back side of the corn field and into a strip woods, and then angled through the strip woods to the northwest. The track then cut across a small field and into the wooded bottom along the river. The track then turned and worked back east along the slight ridge edge along the bottom. THen she rolled up on a tree with the meat. My son made quick work with a single shot to the base of the ear. We then drove to the Maple Rapids club and bs'ed a little before heading back out.

Next drop, we cut my old female Dee. Someone had dumped some salmon carcasses that had been filleted. Dee struck and picked at a track that made a little loop and ended at an very old large den.

We cut the pup west into a hardwoods that boarders a large sawgrass swamp. We had been treeing in the woods, but not tonight. She quickly struck a track and headed west and then cut south west into the swamp. The boys and I didn't want any part of the swamp tonight so we looped back around to the east and south to use a DNR made leeve along the river to close the distance. THe pup then turned back to the south east and made a turn directly south to the river. I ran ahead as fast as I could to catch the dog.

I didn't want any part of driving around and the long walk back to the river. I cut the top of the river's bank just as I seen the dog set her front legs to lunge forward. I immediately yelled come! She turned and looked at me and then stood there barking at the rivers edge as if to say but he went this way.

Yep, I whimped out. The river is about 60-80 yards wide there and it is a very long walk from the south road.

We are not setting the world on fire, but the young dog is doing it on her own.
