Rule Changes?

It seems lately there have been many posts from a handful of people determinedly trying to changing this rule or that...the majority of the folks seem fine with the rules the way they are, so I am wondering why just a few so determined to make changes to suit their ideas of how a dog should/could win? Any ideas?

Some people would rather change the rules to fit their dog instead of looking at what they are feeding and leading in the woods.

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY

I am a person that doesn't mind the rules the way they are.. Every dog in the cast has to hunt under the same rulebook so I don't see the problem.

I like the count down rule that everyone is talking about it works well in other registries. I think that is the problem people want all the KC's to have the same rules.

You Know if they all did have the same rules then we could have 1 big hunt off to see who the best dog really is!!!!! but then what fun would that be????? We couldn't gt on here and complain about it.

First let me say i enjoy the hunts, i go to have fun and hopefully see some good dog work. Having said that i will admit i would like to see several changes in the rules, not to suit my dogs but to hopefully make the hunts a better evaluation of a dogs coon treeing ability. I would like to see a tree countdown, I would like to see a judge be able to minus a meee tooo cover dog, I would like a rule that made it easier for a judge to minus the babbling Auto. strike dog, just to name a few. As the dogs we hunt evolve so must the rules. For you guys who think the rules are fine just the way they are answer one question? what percentage of your casts do you honestly think are won by the best coondog. As far as my dogs go and if i was to set up a hunt this is how it would go. We all draw out and go hunting, at 3am the guy who tosses the most hides on the clubhouse floor wins. PRETTY EASY the best COONDOG wins.

You dont think this would open the door to silent dogs and rough dogs? Is simply bringing in the most coon the only criteria that makes a dog a sho'nuff COONDOG? If that was the case, I would say a top cur would have a better chance of winning a hunt with the number of coon brought in as the only thing determining the winner.... It IS an interesting idea...

Blue Style, I think you are mistaking the discussions for something they are not. When I posted the idea about minusing dogs for covering a closed tree, it wasn't intended to be a suggested rule change and I made that clear to anyone who bothered to read the complete post. It was nothing more than conversation which is the most basic purpose for a discussion board like this one. A lot of different rule changes are discussed and talked about, that doesn't mean they are being submitted for consideration. Can we talk about the pros and cons of a tree countdown without being accused of trying to mold the rules to fit my dog? I sure hope so.

If thats the case Jim, then you arent one of folks this post was about...

Blue Style. to answer your question, yeah i do think the most coon would be the best way to determine the best "sho nuff coondog". Dont you think this was how competition hunting began? As far as cur dogs go if they do a better job and produce more trees with coon in them it doesnt say much for all this selective breeding the hound guys are doing now does it. The point i was attempting to make is that i believe we need to continually strive through the rules we use to try and reward the best COONDOG as opposed to producing dogs that can win in the hunts because of faults such as babbling, and mee tooing just to name a couple that we wouldnt choose in the dog we want to hunt during the week.

alright john, Im with ya and I agree that we need to be striving towards the best balanced coondog...but going by my own personal experience a silent dog can tree more coon in less time than an open mouthed dog...I have a 5 year old male that I raised, he is not even close to being a silent trailer, he opens according to the track, BUT you hunt him alone, and he will never open his mouth til he trees....he has learned to shut up and he can tree the coon quicker....it is not entirely to my taste, but he has become more efficient at his job, and it is due to his intelligence...

What about the people who kill 5-8 coons out of one tree and the ones that saw a coon sitting up knocked it out too when there dog didn't even tree on it. How about picking up a road kill on the way back in to the club? I know some people who just pleasure hunt and they do these things just to throw off on the comp hunt dogs and say their dog treed x amount of coon this kill season but they really only treed about 1/2 the amount!!!! Then how about the dog that trees 3 possums and 2 coons in your hunt what about the possums how do you count them? So coon hides don't equal coon dog either

As long as their are COMPETITION HUNTS, there will be folks who learn to get around the rules, regardless....to some folks getting the win is all that matters, not how they accomplished that win...

Posted by steve cole on 10-03-2009 05:17 PM:

the most hides dosn't mean the most treed I have seen several coon that wasn't treed. I f I wasn't honest then I could shoot them. One night last season kate treed 4 coon I seen 10 that she didn't tree.

A men

I love to comp. hunt but I hate to argue and about 80% of the time the casts that I am on are great. What I hate is to draw out and someone thinks that they are in the finals of the world hunt. I am not saying the rules are any different in a local "KC" hunt but go out and have a good time if your dog messes up just admit it and go on. I have too a lot!!!!!

Rule Changes

There's only a few on here that actually know and understand the rules, and they are the people that are seeing that they conflict with other rules. I agree with most of the proposed changes.
