-- what would you do (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=302718)
what would you do
what would you do, we sold a 8 week old pup to a man, now the pup is 5 months old, and just died of parasites and hook worms and became anemic, we thought about giving him one to replace her, but decided that since it wasn’t a genetic thing, to let him have the next pup at half off. We feel bad about it, just wanted to know what you all will do. Thanks
p.s . she was de-wormed and was vet check before and after she left here, and she was fine.

It is his fault the pup died. He had the pup for 3 months and should have taken better care of it.

I don't think I'd even sell him another pup. Obviously he doesn't take good care of them. A pup doesn't just die overnight from parasites, he had plenty of time to notice something was wrong.

he took her to a er vet on wed, they done some test, and gave him med until he could get her to his vet, and he waited until sat to do it. him and his girlfriend seem like good people, I dont think he would have done this on purpose. just din't have the funds, is what he told us.

If you cant afford them dont have them.I would not sell him another. If you have a regular vet They would usually work out a payment plan. I dont know the guy just sounds like he is not responsible enough.

Sounds like a sorry owner, has nothing to do with being a good breeder. I sure wouldn't sell them another pup at any price.

It is sad he lost his pup but you don't owe him a thing.Wormer for one pup is cheap.Did he keep her shots up to date too.
I try and give new a owners a "to do"list for their pup. What is due and when. What to in case of emergencies etc.
Keeping the shots up to date and worming is essential to the health of a pup.Make sure new owners are aware of this.
I had a person call and tell me his 5 month old pup died of parvo. The first thing I asked is "did you keep up the shots"?He says"no,I did'nt see a reason to".........
In the end it is your decision, but hope this helps.
re
being a good breeder would mean you dont want this person to have another dog unless he can pay for it. a good breeder is making sure the pups are getting a good home

I wouldn't......
sell him another, let alone GIVE HIM ONE!!!!!!!!!!
if the guy didn't take care of the 1st one, what makes u think he'll take any better care of the next one?

We live in a "no fault nation". When you sold it, it has got to be wonderful THERE'S SUPPOSED TO BE A GOVERNVERNMENT AGENCY TYAT SAYS SO". AND IF THAT PUP IS 1 OUT OF TWENTY FIVE THAT IS A FOOL, IT IS NOT THE GOBMENTS FAULT, IT"S YOURN i( and make a Gr Nt Ch) but you would not be as evil had you sold that pup for $1.00 ( but still sueable) bet that AH is from Tennessee.
A good breeder?
If this was a vet checked, healthy puppy when it left you, and
this puppy dyed at 5 months old because it had not been kept on a regular worming schedule after leaving you. You do not owe this person anything, but a hard way to go!
It is your responsibility as a "good breeder" to NOT put another puppy in this persons hands.
This should be a no brainer....This person killed the puppy you sold him by not giving it proper care....If you place another puppy with this person to ease your mind, you are as guilty as he.
The first puppy, shame on him...The second puppy, shame on you...
I would hope as a "good breeder", that you already know the answer to this question that you are asking, and that you are just seeking confirmation on your decision...

Agree all the way...
No way would they get another pup. Instead, their name would go on "the list." We have a list of names of those we refuse to do business with.

HERE'S WHAT WE DO WITH ALOT OF 1ST TIME SID PUP OWNERS.
IF THEY ARE SOMEONE WE KNOW WE USUALLY EITHER SELL THEM A PUP WITH A HECK OF A DISCOUNT, GIVE THEM A PUP OR MAYBE TRADE ON SOMETHING.
MAKING MONEY IS NOT IMPORTANT. ENSURING THE PUPS HAVE A SECURE HOME AND THE BEST POSSIBLE CHANCE TO BECOME WHAT THEY CAN IS FAR MORE VALUABLE THAN A COUPLE HUNDRED BUCKS.
ONCE THAT PERSON PROVES TO US THAT THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE GOOD CARE OF THE PUP, ALOT OF TIMES THEY WILL GET PICK OR GET OFFERED IN LITTERS BEFORE ANYONE ELSE DOES BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT THEY WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF AND HUNTED RIGHT.
IF WE GET SCREWED OR WE SEE SOMEONE ISNT TAKING CARE OF THE PUPS LIKE WE THINK THEY SHOULD, WE WONT DEAL WITH THEM AGAIN. SIMPLE AS THAT. WE DONT HAVE TO PUT UP WITH BS FROM SOMEONE THAT JUST WANTS TO MAKE A $1 OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.
WE ARE INTO BETTERING THE BREED AND THAT IS WHAT YOU'VE GOT TO DO TO BE A BREEDER.
YOU'VE GOT TO BE WILLING TO GIVE WHEN YOU NEED TO, AND CULL WHEN YOU NEED TO. ALWAYS LOOK OUT FOR THE INTEREST OF THE HOUNDS.
