I heard it'll be low...but who knows. Fur prices are kind of like the weather, it truely unpredictable.

Posted by Jason Mullins on 09-22-2009 05:07 AM:

according to the fur fish and game buyers will only be buying the jumbo hides 32 inches and longer but who knows you never really know til the time comes

Yea, but the way things are with the economy do you think anything is gonna be big money right now?

Posted by bluebellchopper on 09-22-2009 05:28 AM:

Well i mean

I was thinking on keeping all my hides this year to atleast pay for some of my gas money that i spend hunting. I mean come on a man can skin a coon in under 5 minutes? even if there just 5-15$ that adds up if you hunt alot and your dogs show you alot coons. just for a rough geuss. 80 coons in a kill season on average at ten dollars a hide thats 800 bucks?

I think you got it Bluebell. If you dont kill a bunch, dont plan on getting a hunk (o cash that is).

Posted by bluebellchopper on 09-22-2009 05:42 AM:

Haha

well that i have the time and dogs to do!!!

I heard about $6 for large hides. Last year at this time I heard as high as $30 and the highest I got was $12, so go figure.

All we are really interested in is the chase anyway, right?

I HOPE THERE LESS THEN A DOLLAR............

Posted by bluebellchopper on 09-22-2009 06:00 AM:

yea your right

but i just hate see em go to waste. he gave me the pleasure of running him if i shoot them i want to do something with them if i can. I dont feed dogs buy hunting lic. gas ex..... not to get something back out of it. Besides it be cool to take a picture with my two hounds after kill season with all the hides up on our old barn. I'd like to show people just how much my dogs put up thur the toughest part of the season. If a man can go hunting night in night out thur dec jan feb mar and knock out coons constitantly then your doing something. A summer coon is a completely different coon from a rutting boar in the winter!

It's always entertaining to go to the local shop when the fur buyer shows up. Someone always gets mad and loads up there stuff and leaves because they aren't going to get $10 a hide. Just goes to show that some people will never be able to enjoy anything but money. And that's a real shame.

I have two boys ,ages 13 and 14 , I guess it will be a good year to teach them how to flesh and stretch a coon . If hide prices do rebound by mid winter , which they probably will to some degree if there is no supply , we will have something to market.

Posted by Randy Tallon on 09-22-2009 02:06 PM:

Hide prices ended last year at almost nothing for a good hide. Some projection for this year..

Considering what local buyers bought at last year and what they sold for, if they could sell at all, many will not be around this year.
The art of negotiating the sell may turn into the art of finding a willing buyer.

I'm with you Smokin-1-MO

I'll shoot it down even farther. I hope they don't even buy green hides of any size and the sretched and fletched ones only bring $0.25 each. You are right about the spotlighters, and everybody up here already has a so called COONDOG, you won't be able to park a truck along a county road for the people hunting. By the end of season I'll have a pen full of culls, and no coon killed for all the time I will spend protecting my comp hunting places from tresspassers.

I agree with you about trapping coon, but I sure like the yote and cat trappers alot. I guess there is no sport in that either, but I'm glad they do it.

PM Trapper Girl, she'll tell ya what to expect.

I would think about $50 for green, summer kitten coon and go up from there.

I've heard $2.00. Oh well it's kinda like racing, you can't be in it for the money!
