treated plywood would be the way to go, just my opinion...

Advantech flooring Its heavy but is very weather resistant. I build dog houses with it .

I will have to check that advantech out...does it come in normal thicknesses, and how much more would it weigh than plywood?

advantech is just 3/4 in flooring. it is little pieces pressed togather. it is true that it is weather resistent for a while. but after a couple years it is a soggy mess. and heavy. treated 1/2 inch plywood would be best wood to use. a little heavy when new, it will get lighter with age. but still it is wood and wont last as long as an aluminum box. so you may build 2 or 3 or more to get the life of an aluminum box. jmo

advantech is not made to be exposed to the elements forever. it is short term water resistent. i use it for the subfloors when framing a house. it is great for that. it often rains before a house is dried in and regular plywood will warp and the plies will seperate as soon as the sun comes back out. advantech is a great subfloor. but it is awfully heavy. i use it also for shade for my dogs but after a year or so it is ready to be tossed.

I have one I just used good quality plywood. Primer it and some good outdoor paint (2 thick coats, inside and out)

I've had it almost a year. Still looks new.

In my new truck

The top still looks good.

Right after I built it

Sorry I forgot to mention that I do paint the wood. I left a small piece of the advantech out in the weather for a year or so to test it and all it done was change colors. It is a type of of OSB board with a 50 year guarantee. It's like cutting a slab of glue with some wood stuck to it. I personally dont think they put the quality of glue in plywood anymore that they put in the Advantech. JMO

You go to Owens website, and they say use 1/2 inch wood, if this comes only in 3/4 inch I can see that being a problem....

I have never personally liked the metal dogboxes, they draw and hold more heat...I like the idea of the wooden walls, top etc...plus that thin blue insulation board they put in those boxes dont do a thing to insulate...

I'm not much on dissagreeing with people on here, but the blue stuff really does do a great job of keeping the sun from cooking your dog. Not oppinion , but tested fact!!! Take it out, and put a thermometer in your box. HUGE difference.
