We didn't have a gun one night and we equalled one rift down the tree. At first he went all the way to the top but he came down the tree super fast when we started squalling. The dogs were treed on the tree the entire time.

We treed
a momma and 3 kittens one night.Had 3 dogs blowin' the top outta the tree.Soon as I squalled bout 3 times, momma came down the tree to the lowest branch, ran out to the end of it and bailed out.She ran about 3 quarters of a mile to the other end of the farm and treed in a huge cypress tree.

ive had alot of coons come down with dogs at the bottom of tree most when you just want them to look

or all the time coondog you choose
was hunting the river last fall and got 3 dogs treed on a big sow, squalled her down to about 4ft above them dogs and she shot straght back up that tree lol like the coon never knew the dogs were there till she right ontop of them
Sometimes
I'm decent with a squaller I think. In 20 years hunting I've squalled several coons down.
My theory:
Some coons ( maybe 1 out of 10 ) are very nervous and can possibly be squalled down. The rest are not going to move much. Some coons won't even look at you ( plain refuse to ).
It does improve your odds of squalling down coon if the coon doesn't have a barking dog at the bottom of the tree. The past couple years I've been hunting a dog that shuts up at the tree when I arrive ( I don't like it, but thats what he does ) anyway I noticed I was able to squall a few more down than usual since hunting this dog. I actually quit squalling them down to the dog in hopes I could get the dog to bark more when I'm around.
You also might try this, while squalling try shining your light ( bright light ) above the coon, then lower your light as the coon moves down, keeping the light shining above the coon.
