First bear of 2009 with hounds

I got lucky this mourning and got on a fat sow first thing. They ran her a little less than 2 miles. They walked her awhile and then bayed her up in some blow downs. She was pretty old, what teeth she had left were pretty worn. The dogs that were on the bear today were Rooster,Gunner,Willy and Ally.

We got another one today,it should of been over at 8 oclock this mourning when it walked across the road in front of us but the hunter didn't shoot. The dogs ended up walking it untill we finally got in and shot it at 2 oclock. The hunter was a 15 year old boy and he did a great job ,and put it down with one shot.Gunner and wille were on it from the start and then about 12 0clock I put Rooster in to help hold it long enough to get in and shoot it.We walked in to it a half a dozen times before but it would always hear us coming and bust out.

The boy and his bear and Rooster and Gunner.

We treed another one yesterday. It was a nice run, about 5 miles. My fathers old Rooster dog did a nice job on the cold trail,He had to swim a bog to keep it going. My two Lightfoot dogs Bonnie and Clyde did a real nice job,Bonnie is just a year old and she also treed real hard.We got to hear the end of the chase when they caught the bear and then treed it.

This was the bear in the tree,it was real thick around the bottom of the tree so it was real hard to get a good picture.

Rooster,Clyde,Wille and Bonnie

Bonnie with the bear.

SCOTT
That would be great, Bonnie's dam <Coby> is a very hard tree dog. My C.B. female <litter-mate to Bonnie> was a intense tree dog.

I took a family day today and took my 11 year old twins Hunter and Hayden and my wife hunting.Hunter drew the long straw so he was going to be the first one to shoot. We got on an hour and a half old track. The dogs had had a few days off so they were ready to crank.I started with Gunner and turned in Wille,Duke and Ally.Duke must have been feeling espiecaly good today because he took the lead and no one could catch him, thats usauly what his farther Gunner does to them. They screamed him for a little over an hour and treed it.We got as close as we could which was just under a mile and I was thinking as we were walking to them that this was going to be a long drag with the crew I had today. When we got to the tree they were treed in a small white maple tree.I got the dogs tied back and got Hunter ready for the shot.He was pretty excited and just grazed the bear,no fear,I was there to back him up.Yeah right,I started unloading with my 44 mag pistol and after 5 shots I hadn't fared any better than him.Hunter was pretty upset and thought that he had ruined his chance but I told him that I was pretty sure that the hounds would catch him again.By the time we got back to the truck we could see on the GPS that they had him treed again. This time he also treed in a small white maple and Hunter made his shot count. The dogs did a great job and I had a very happy boy on my hands. And Oh yeah they were only about 40 feet off a road this time,I told them sometimes things happen for a reason.Every body agreed it was a great day.

This was the bear in the first tree.

Hunter and Hayden with there prize.

They wanted to help drag.

Me,My wife Joy and Hunter with his bear.

Gunner,Wille,Ally and Duke.
