-- scoring question? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=299471)

Posted by CHRIS SUTTON on 09-12-2009 04:53 AM:

scoring question?

I think its a fun way and help everyone get to know the rules so heres another.....

Dogs A,B,C,D strike in that order. A and then B tree, five is up and while walking into tree C and D are heard treeing. when cast arives all dogs are handled and coon is found. What scores do the dogs have after scoring tree?

Posted by Bill(Chew) on 09-12-2009 05:24 AM:

A------------- +225
B------------- +150
C------------- - 87 1/2
D------------- - 42 1/2

Amended:
A------------ + 225
B------------ + 150
C------------ - 50
D------------ - 25

wouldn't Dogs C and D only have their strike points minused?

Hey, give me a break. It was 1:30 am after three weeks of going hard and I was tired. I split third and fourth tree and added to their strike; I was wrong, coon seen so they get minus strike points. Sorry.

"If dog is declared treed, after five minutes has elapsed no additional dog can be declared treed at that particular tree but if they come in to tree will get minus on track and nothing on tree if coon is seen."

from the 09-10 UKC rulebook

Posted by kurt benson on 09-13-2009 04:49 AM:

if dog c was english...scratch'em...dog d was a blue dog- double minus...hahaha just kiddin guys kroggy's right

Posted by Ship on 09-13-2009 05:38 AM:

if dog C and D are treed after the five is up and are on the closed tree they both get 125- along with there strike with coon being seen. C would have 175- D 150-

Absolutely not.

If they were declared treed THEN they would have went on the paper for 125 and minused/plussed accordingly once at the tree.

This question doesn't ask that. It says they were just there, not declared treed.

You NEVER EVER assign points except at a slick or off game tree. NEVER. Those are the only two times you are allowed to assign points to dogs treeing but not decleared treed period. This didn't fall under that category so the only points those dogs had to minus was strike points.

I understand that if they are just there its there Strike points only. I know the question doesnt say if they were called treed or not. I was just simply adding to it with the new rule change if the handlers of these dogs treed after the 5 and where on the closed tree they would get Minused both ways! I guess I should of sid in my original post if they were called treed by the handler after the 5 and not just said treed.

A Rule 4(k) will be added to read: {Any dog(s) declared treed after five minutes expires and tree is closed; call will be accepted as a split tree. If dog is on closed tree when judge arrives, points will be minused.} Even with this change nothing will change in regards to declaring split trees in accordance with Rule 11. The judge will still declare a dog as split and record it as such when it is obvious to him/her. The only difference will now be that the judge will no longer have the authority to not accept a tree call after a tree has been closed.

If a handler chooses to declare their dog treed then it would be recorded as a split, even when it’s not obvious to the judge. (in this situation only)It is very important to note or remember that this change will add more responsibility on the part of the handler. If a handler chooses to declare their dog treed after a tree has been closed it would simply result in tree points being recorded as split, regardless of whether the dog was obviously split by the judge or not, (in this situation only) and if the dog is found to be treeing on the closed tree; those tree points are minused and strike points scored accordingly in accordance with Rule 4(g).

Yep, this is correct. I was just making sure it was 100% understood that tree points can not be assigned under any other circumsance except at a slick or off game tree to dogs that were there TREEING AND NOT DECLARED TREED WHEN THE JUDGE ARRIVED.

I figgured you may have been thinking they declared them or something and what you said is 100% correct if they had declared the dogs treed after the 5, but for some reason there is a belief that you can just start assigning tree points every time you minus a tree if you feel like it on this board. That's just not true. The only two instances are when dogs are there and activly treeing at a slick or off game tree.

yeah funny thing was I read the changes right before I went to my first hunt this spring and was like wow bet too many people didnt read that. And it happened in this case that night where the handlers of C and D called treed after the 5 and wasnt happy about it when we got there lol. Quick flip of the card and they withdrew. Just wanted to inform others that may of not got up to date.
