Hunting in the MS delta????

Guys I need your help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me, my dad, and 2 other hunting buddies are planning a squirrel/coon hunting trip to the Mississippi Delta during christmas break from college. We have heard that the hunting is GREAT down there and want to give it a try and have a nice time. This will be our first trip there so we dont know where any good places are (thats public land) . I realize most folks dont want to give their spots out but your help will be greatly appreciated. We are going to haul our camper so we will need somewhere that has campsites close to where the hunting zone is. We will be mainly squirrel hunting but I am probably going to carry my Walker dogs and hunt coons at least one night.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks,

Dustin Tutor

Mark,

I guess we were playing phone tag this weekend lol. I will try to catch up with you this week. I heard that the Delta National Forest or something like that in Rollin Fork is i good place to go but we need a campsite with hook ups close by. Is it true that that is a nice place to hunt

I'm probably a little biased, but I'd consider the Delta NF and surrounding WMA's to be some of the best coon & squirrel hunting in the country.........Plenty of coons.......as well as gray, red and black squirrels.........Lots of acreage, beautiful hardwood river bottem timber and flat walking..........

Hook ups will be a bit of a problem as most of the camping sites in DNF and Sunflower WMA are primitive camping, i.e., no water, sewer or electrical hook ups. Bring a generator and some water.........

Mark,

Do you know any state parks or anywhere close to there or in reasonable driving distance that will have hook ups b/c we are lucky to have the camper without a generator lol. But thanks for your help man most folks will not give up their hunting spots.

Leroy Percy in Hollandale, MS is the closet state park of which I'm aware. It's nice and has a WMA as well. I'll be there (hunting, not camping) the first 2 weekends of October.......

Dahomey and O'keefe

My dad is a squirrel hunter and he hunts these places often during deer season. He has had lots of good hunts there. With some 20-30 squirrel days. You have to use non-toxic shot on dahomey. If you really want try the White River refuge in Arkansas. You have to use non-toxic shot there too. Squirrels are thick here this year. Lots of limits killed this weekend at WRR.

Many oportunities. Panther Swamp. Delta National, Sunflower. The list goes on and on. Just go to the wma page on MDWF website. Check seasons because they are all different.
