Parvo

I just recently lost a pup to parvo. I cleaned the kennels with clorox and even dug them out. Is there anything else I need to do.

It will never leave. The only thing that you can do is keep young dogs off of the ground until they are 12 months. They say that they can't get it after they are 12 months old.

good luck

I would bleach it one more time and keep a pup away from it for at least a year, and yes you can kill it. and a dog has to be older than a 1.5 to supposed to be not able to catch it, good luck, had to deal with it a few years ago. I keep my yard and kennel clean, dogs away staying away from strays, and one dog got in and passed it to 4 of my pups, and killed them. on your next pup, just tell your vet that you lost a pup due to parvo, they will give it a extra dose.

your pen

When this sickness gets in the ground it stays around up to 7yrs. It helps to put bleach were the pups was, and remove the ground. I would move the kennel somewere else. Plus when you go and get a pup, make sure it has it first shots it will help you out also.

I've got off the ground whelping pens and still lost pups to what looked just like parvo. Keep the Albon 500mg tablets handy for coccidiosis. Also, if it is parvo, I'm just passing on a tale, you didn't hear it from me, mix 5cc clorox to 95 cc water and slowly squirt 5 cc of solution between pups cheek and gum to swallow 5 -6 times a day.

Prior to that the vet told me that with his treatment and IF he could keep the seasick pills down (which he couldn't) and IF this and IF that for about 4 days, the he stood a good 10 % chance of surviving.

So what did I have to lose? I tried the Homebrew too. That pups 3 years old and answers to Clorox.

First thing to do if you can is move the kennel to a different spot, it will give you a little piece of mind. I lost a pup 2 yrs ago to parvo and built a new above ground kennel. I am still worried about it. Since then I have raised 10 pups within 20ft of where I lost the one to parvo. My vet told me to spray with a 20% soultion of bleach, well I used straight bleach every other day for 2 weeks, and continue to do so every couple months. It may be overkill but I feel better doing it this way. I have 2 pups now that are on the ground very close to where I lost the one, because it is the only shade in the yard, and I haven't had any problems so far. Don't forget to spray the dog house and anything else that the infected dog may have contacted, if you even think it may have touched it throw it away or spray it very good. I hope this helps. If you are like me it will always be in the back of your mind. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Good luck.

I lost 6 out of 9 to Parvo about a year ago. I had some 6 mo old and 8 mo old pups there at the time. None of them got sick. Best thing to do is vaccinate mother before breeding, and then vaccinate pups at around 8 weeks old.
