Male Or Female
This is not to seperate us into 2 groups or it is not about which is better. In your .....opinion,...If you were wanting a ...STARTED PUP, 8 TO 12 MTHS OLD...ELIGIBLE FOR ...ALL REGISTRIES...BREEDERS STAKES, S.S. AND PERFORMANCE AND A.K.C. HUNTS......WHICH SEX DO YOU PERFER, AND WHY???.THERE ARE THINGS TO CONSIDER WITH FEMALES BEING IN HEAT AT THE WRONG TIME, HOWEVER SOME MALES ARE IN HEAT...ALL THE TIME...JUST ASSUME THAT EITHER ARE NICE PUPS WITH A COONDOG PEDIGREE , ALSO IS BREEDERS STAKES AND PERFORMANCE PROGRAMS.....A MUST FOR MOST OF TODAYS COONHUNTERS.....NO RIGHT OR WRONG ANSWERS, THANKS IN ADVANCE....JBG

It is just opinion but i say female yes they do come in heat but like you say alot of males are in heat all the time but it is pretty rough on them if they get to carried away in front of me i think females stay out of trouble a little easier than the male dogs
agreed
i agree big blue but if you have an independant male that goes opposite direction of other dogs sign me up id like 2 have another one

i usually raise one litter every 4 or 5 years and i always keep a female. they must be pp and ss although i am too old to hunt the hunts anymore
I personally prefer females. They seem to stay out of trouble. And you can raise a litter with any stud dog you choose. I have good luck with females. More level headed i would say from my experiances.

Female...as has already been stated I can cross my good female on any good stud dog I choose to keep my blood line going.

My last 3 have been females and I'm doine with them. They have screwed me out of two World Hunts and a Truck hunt by coming in heat, only after I've paid my entry of course. Both my pups I have now are males. Females are too moody and inconsistant to me.
To me the only real reason to own a female is for breeding and I got zero interest in that. Been there, done it, no more. I'd rather chose from what is out there, somebody else can breed them.
"Females are too moody and inconsistant to me."
Opps, there ya go again Jim.
For hunting purposes it doesn't matter to me. For breeding purposes I go with females all the way.

I have also found them to be more expensive. And they whine all the time. All of them need a good smack now and then and most of them can't take it. I could go on but I think the picture is clear.

Jim, I will also agree with you on the ...MOOD SWINGS....( SOME DONT SHOW IT TIL THEY GET OLDER), IS IT HORMONES..... That right their is the main reason...I hunted males so long....I have spayed 2 females that were right tuff dogs, never were the same after....JBG

I prefer girls. Think they are smarter and easier to train and I can't stand male dogs hiking and peeing while the girl dogs is huntin. I ain't never had no moody female exept my wife and well I figure that comes with the territory.
males or females
well in the 1990 s i hunted hard the good male dogs are alot less work i started a bunch probably 40 to 50 super states pups of all breeds you have to have a kennel for females when they come in season also at 10 months old this messes them up while there littermate brothers are still in training you get ready for a hunt they can come into heat we have enough good females in all breeds to buy a pup from so raising a litter is a headache for me but females do tend to stay out of trouble BUT FOR THE AVERAGE HUNTER A MALE SEEMS MORE PRACTICAL AND LOWER MAINT. BUT A FEMALE SEEMS TO BE WORTH MORE WHEN THEY REACH 5 YR. OLD OR OLDER
James, you know I like males & I like them big with feelings that don't get hurt easily. I can't take a dog that if you get on to them they just freeze up.
