Garmin Mapping Software Questions

1. Does the Garmin Tracker come with the contour mapping software installed already, or do you have to buy is somewhere else?

2. How much does it cost, and where do you buy it if you need to?

I just bought a Garmin from Valley Creek supply and they threw in a map chip at no cost for me. I'm no expert at the software stuff but this chip that I installed on my unit shows me everything I need to see in the map view.

Actually, I wish I could shut the contour lines off, I just want to see roads, rivers, and cemeteries (my map shows them).

You can choose not to view the contour lines. I don't have one in front of me right now, but I believe you can go the "Menu" fro the map screen.

Man, you fellers that want the contour lines off the map must hunt in flat ground.

In the mountains the contour lines really, really help out. You can see that the dogs are on ridge X and if you follow ridge Y out to them you only have to climb the mountain one time as opposed to the old way of going straight to them and maybe having to climb over 2 or 3 ridges. The countour lines are a great tool.

Of course if you hunt in flat ground I guess it doesn't matter, but it sure is nice in the mountains LOL.

Thats exactly what I was thinking Rip...... I like to try and find the biggest longest ridge that runs toward the dogs or atleast back to the truck..Sometimes I hate those stupid little lines though..Wheen they get real close and theres a bunch of them lol.....By the way..Some dealers are selling refurbished units now CHEAP!!!!!! If I was going to buy one that would be the one...
