puppy help

my sons beagle had pups 5 weeks ago. One of them has what looks like his butt hole sticking out. I have never seen this before. Do I need to see a vet or is this something I can take care of at home? He is pooping fine but he walks kinda bow legged. I appreciate any help. Thanks.

It's called a prolapsed anus, and it needs to see a vet. The vet will put it back in place and put a few stitches in to hold it there. About half of the time that will fix the problem, and he'll be fine. The other half of the time it will come back out again, and no matter what you do it will keep coming back out, and those usually end up being put down. Some breeders will just put them down when it first comes out. It is considered to be a hereditary problem, and some breeds and lines are more prone to it than others.
You have to do something about it,though, because even if he is going to the bathroom fine now, if you don't fix it, it will lead to chronic and painful problems before too long.

When I was working at the shelter, we had a puppy come in like that. Turned out he had something like hemorroids. Seriously. The staff had to put hemorroid cream on it several times a day.

I wouldn't know that difference between the problem and a true prolapsed anus, so I would definately have the dog seen by a vet.
