Rig Hunting Boxes?

I have a coonhound that strikes a coontrack from the truck. Problem is that she is a billy goat and scratches the hell out of the side of my truck with her nails. I've tried short leasing her to the bed tie down hooks but she is still able to get her paws over the bed rails. Any suggestions on how to rig her to save my paint? What brand/style new box would you reccomend?

some easy fix's till you can get a box....

screw a I-bolt in the middle of your truck bed. Take a horse stall matt and lay it in the bed with a hole in it for your I-Bolt...Tie your dog short so he/she can not get to the bed rails..

let your dog strike out of a crate if need for the time being..

I have always hunted form the top of a dog box. I have a local fab guy make my dog box's for me..

Take the youth hunting they are the future of our sport....

Put a chain in between the two tiedowns in the front of the box and then a tie out half way in between. Keep it short and she shouldn't be able reach the sides.

I hate to break it to you, but having hounds and NOT getting your truck scratch is a pretty tough combination.

You're right...trying to keep my truck in good shape has been a losing battle. Especially when you add hounds and hunting to the mix. Can anyone reccomend a specific brand rigging box for a full size pickup & explain why you like this particular setup? More interested in the type that allows their head to hang out the side as apposed to ridding on top of the box.

this is a east tn rig type box that i built. can be built out of treated wood or metal, alum. square tubing.

Owens

I have the Owens Bear/Bobcat box and love it and the quality they put in their boxes. Go to the Owens website and look for the bear/bobcat box. The top rails are ordered separately.

I've seen the Owens boxes and they really look good. I was thinking about one of their bottom storage boxes and having them install 4 rigging holes on the box. I called them and got a price. I just need to break down and dish out the cash for one.

Seneca Kennels and Supply builds excellent dogboxes. I pratically gave a owens away to get it out of here due to liking my Seneca so much.

I have had houndsmen deluxe, Owens, MillCreek, Unique and a Regal. When my Seneca is no longer able to be used I will buy another one. Plan and simple the best box on the market. Plus it is well insulated for those cold or hot days.

I saw Ron from Seneca this past weekend and I gave him an idea for an adjustable Summer dog box. Very similar to the ones I see you all build out of expanded metal but this one will be adjustable to fit into the Toyota for local dogging or the full size F-350 for the long haul to whereever. I expect them to start producing it within the next few months if it can be done.

He also does custom work at a respectable price.
